Mike Tannenbaum Interview on Braylon, Jones, Kicker, Trading http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/je...ts+(Blogs/The+Jet+Stream)&utm_content=Twitter
Good to see he wants Edwards back. I'll be curious to see what he does with Jones. He better re-sign Feely. Thank you very much.
Tanny is in his element...this guy thrives this time of year. I can't wait to see what kind of magic he wields between now and draft day. In Tanny we trust.
I don't know, if he reverts to his earlier self then it's definitely an upgrade. I love Feely, but I'll take an upgrade at any position on our team.
Yea its hard to go against Tanny. I think hes shown that hes capable of doing great things for this franchise. I think Brett favre and Gholston were all on Mangini...... And from the sounds of it unfortunately i think we have seen the last of feely in a jet uniform.
Why should we blame Tanny for the Favre move? It was a great move. Medium risk, high reward. After last season ended, I thought it was a good gamble that didn't pay off. Minnesota this year showed the upside of making that Favre trade. It was a classic Tannenbaum move, it just didn't work out the way we hoped.
Feely won't be resigned so that we can sign a FA for the roughly $1.5-$2 mill he'll get signing elsewhere.
It kills me that he can say these sort of things about Thomas Jones and what he brings to the team, and then turn around and put the squeeze on him. In an uncapped year. Remember last year, how his low salary was supposedly ok based on all the money he makes in other years? He was supposed to be fine with not getting much then, because look at all the money in the other years? I just don't see the angle here. You've got your other two halfbacks on the roster for dirt cheap, those guys are getting paid nothing. Five mil for a halfback who will compete for the conference rushing title, never fumble, get all the tough yards, set an example in the weight room, and get the team jacked up before every game, is in no sense too big a price tag. In an uncapped year, no less. Shut up and write the check.
Tannenbaum is totally out of his element here with the Jets being a final 4 team. His hands are tied and every other GM knows it. He can't sign any FAs unless he loses one and even then only at the same price that FA he lost gets with his new team. He has few draft picks and that leaves him the only option of a trade. I hope he doesn't bend over in the shower anytime soon.
If anyone ever plays poker with Tannenbaum, you won't just lose your shirt, you'll be sitting there naked. Is Mr T one of the most important cogs in recent years for the Jets organisation? I think so.
I hate to lose Feely but he is the Jets most attractive UFA. My understanding is the Jets can't offer a higher first year salary and must stay with the 30% rule, but are not prohibited from offering a huge signing bonus
corner, safety, pass rusher. One of those will be filled via trade, the other two in the first two rounds. My guess is that he trades Kerry Rhodes and Thomas Jones for Dunta, then takes Brandon Graham in the first and Myron Rolle in the second. I mean, that's the ONLY option, isn't it?
Once the season starts we should have a counter of how many catches Edwards makes before he drops one.
I agree. don't mess with the chemistry of this team by taking away a proven leader who is durable despite his age. I think if TJ hits the open market he is one of the first to be gobbled up.
It's a business, Stu. Would you prefer Tanny say "Thomas Jones is a washed up piece of shit" and then try to rework his contract? You can't fault the guy for talking up Jones in the media; that's what he should be doing. And your assessment of Jones is way too optimistic. First of all, there is absolutely no way Thomas Jones competes for the 2010 rushing title with Washington and Greene getting ample carries. If the running game succeeds beyond our wildest dreams in 2010 with the backs we have now, then I see three backs near 1,000 yards, not our oldest back with 1,500. Secondly... get all the tough yards? I think the last play of the Chargers game has you hypnotized. There were many, many times last season when Jones couldn't get the tough yards, but instead was stood up at the line of scrimmage or dived through for an inadequate two/three yard gain. And he certainly didn't get all the tough yards against the Colts. I like Thomas Jones a whole lot, but one of the measures of a good franchise is knowing when you should ditch your productive veterans. New England knows it; they did it with Malloy before winning a Super Bowl. Pittsburgh knows it; they did it with Faneca before winning a Super Bowl. Indy knows it; they did it with James before winning a Super Bowl. San Diego probably doesn't know it; they'd be in a better situation if they had traded Tomlinson before the start of the 2009 season. The Seahawks probably don't know it; they tried to ride a busted Alexander through the playoffs.
