Jets deal to land defensive studs Sunday, April 29, 2007 BY DAVE HUTCHINSON Star-Ledger Staff http://www.nj.com/jets/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1177821935238410.xml&coll=1&thispage=1
Good article...I was JUST saying in another thread that this FO is going to make things happen...although the Pats are STILL an excellent team and drafts VERY WELL (DAMMIT 2 HELL!!!), the gap closes even further every year to once again get TWO impact players day one of the draft is excellent work and I'm SURE McCariens and/or BARTON is a goner today for a 4th rounder or two to add additional depth to this team. IF NOT...we'll cover some needs via free agency.
Jets burn picks to bolster defense with Revis, Harris BY TOM ROCK tom.rock@newsday.com http://www.newsday.com/sports/footb...91714apr29,0,3520724.story?coll=ny-jets-print
Not to pick on the FO, but how did the gap close during the draft/FA period. And the pats still have 9 picks left today.

Gang Green top pick's uncle not feeling Blue BY RICH CIMINI DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Sunday, April 29th 2007, 4:00 AM http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...gang_green_top_picks_uncle_not_feeling_b.html
There is a difference between just having picks and having IMPACT picks, likely to start day 1...some if not most of the Pats picks today probably will not start right away unless there are that many injuries...these 2 kids, Revis and Harris, can come in and make an IMMEDIATE impact to the success of our D. The Pats at one time with regards to talent were WAY ahead of us, the with experience and another year in Mangini's system, along with the impact players we picked up today AND last year, the Jets have FURTHER, closed the gap on the Pats.
Jets Trade Up to Draft Revis With 14th Pick http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/29/sports/football/29jets.html?_r=1&ref=football&oref=slogin
Ok and the Pats signed Tory James Donte Stallworth Wes Welker Adalius Thomas Kyle Brady I think that puts them still way ahead of us. Farther then ever and like I said they have 9 picks left. If even a third of them end up players that will be three more to go with Meriweather who they got yesterday.

Jets Make Sure They Get Revis Trade Up To No. 14 For Cornerback April 29, 2007 Associated Press http://www.courant.com/sports/footb...29,0,6291661.story?coll=hc-headlines-football
Kyle Brady? What a laugh...What is he like 50 now(tongue in cheek)? And when Kyle was here, he was ok, not anything special. Donte Stallworth, on PAPER is an excellent receiver with an EXCELLENT 40 time...however, He has YET to live up to the 13th overall pick expectations and has YET to crack the 1000yd mark in receiving yards, he's also in the substance abuse program. Wes Welker?   Whatever. Adalius Thomas, there is not much I can say about this kid...he's a beast. Tory James, what is this his 5th or 6th team? He's good but your throwing names at me and I cannot see outside of BRADY how the Pats STILL have a MAJOR advantage over us Plus they lose Dillon and Maroney is good but a 2nd year player, We have Thomas Jones. NO ONE, especially not me is saying that PATS are NOT the overall favorites to once again win the AFC East. I said we 'further closed the gap'. Don't over think the statement. I didn't say we are BETTER than the Pats I said we closed the gap. That simple.
They got Brady solely for blocking which he is good at. Welker to run back kicks and catch a few passes, I suppose. Stallworth to be Stallworth (With just him their receivers are upgraded 200%) James is insurance for Samuels which is a smart move Thomas is Thomas I think they got a couple of LBs too but not sure. They will probably take that kid from Brown today, maybe Michael Bush too. Well worth the risk on both of them. If they work out it's a coup for them, if not it's only 4th or 5th round picks anyway. The point is their weaknesses last year were WR and their LBs are getting old. They addressed them completely. They were better then us before they did and even better now. And they still may end up with Moss although that looks dead now but who knows. Maybe they'll trade for Turner too with that extra 1st they picked up for next year. Now wouldn't that just thrill us all to death.
We basically came out of day one with 2 starters. A corner with Pro bowl potential, and a starting 3-4 LB. Remember, Harris is made for a 3-4 and has played in a 3-4, not a guy who Might be good for that D. He has excelled in it.
LOL...your right about that...but Hey the only thing ANY of us can do is see what happens with a 2nd year in this system. I hold fast that we have further closed the gap. It only remains to be seen, how much. The TRUE X-factor is Mangini himself, can he out think, out smart and out prepare his former Mentor? For a 1st time HC, Mangini did an ADMIRABLE job last season with a team that was NOT supposed to win more than 6 games last year. There is a reason, Bill Belib*tch was so concerned about him going to of all teams The Jets...I'm sure Mangini has been doing his homework during the offseason. We'll just have to see
thanks Hydro, the best part of all that was the cab driver story. I also liked that we opted for quality over quantity. I guess that's one way to rationalize giving up so much for two players. Another is to include Thomas Jones as a "draft pick"
i just love the fact that Revis wont be so raw..with him already getting Schooled by Ty Law.. similar to Vince Young and Mcnair.
