I don't know if anyone else picked this up yet. So check out: http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show/2223-seventh-rounder-garner-signs Onwards and Upwards!
its only the 7th round pick. That's an easy sign compared to what they'll have to do for VG and Keller. I hope everyone gets in on time this year.
He didn't start until this season, but was blocking for two very successful backs. Hopefully they found a late round gem here.
i would be extremely shocked if another revis situation occurs. I think they learned from last year that getting these deals done are not that easy. And also, you don't have that stupid situation where Revis' agent was also Kendall's agent and all that quibling going on. Unless of course Keller and/or Gholston have the same agent as Chris Baker
I found this on NFL.com... "Garner registered six 90 percent performances for blocking consistency in 2007, the most by a Razorbacks down lineman in one season since 2000." That's pretty damn good. I looked this up after reading Garner's grading out: Bobbie Williams was the last Arkansas lineman to grade out that well. Williams has been a very successful guard in the NFL.
it sounds like Garner could be a diamond in the rough. So why did he last until the 7th round? Is he undersized? too slow? third nipple? I'm not trying to be a smartass....just curious.
I have no idea. He's certainly not too small: 6'6 334 is very big. Maybe inexperience? I'm reading his draft bio, and there are so many positive things about him. 20 of the Razorbacks' 32 TD runs were to the side that Garner anchored. He must be a dominant run blocker. He played behind Tony Ugoh, who was a dominant tackle in college, and a 2nd round draft choice by the Colts. Garner just had to wait in line for a very long time...that's not necessarily a bad thing though: Less wear and tear. I hope he turns out to be a gem. A lot of the good starting offensive linemen in this league weren't even drafted, so Garner's got a shot to become a starter down the road.
From what you've posted, it sounds like the potential is there. I hope he does well in TC and stays healthy...as we saw first-hand last year, it's never a bad thing to have good depth at the o-line position.
I've seen very little film on him...but from what i've read... his weaknesses are that he's not very quick/mobile..and he's only able to play one of the 2 OT positions(Right side). Truthfully...he could turn out to be a poor man's Leonard Davis and end up making the switch to guard. He's so big and has such a good wingspan..that if he learns to use the correct leverage and develops a hand punch..he could project well as an RG type long term. That move would kind of cover up his immobility and allow him to just use his size to dominate in the close quarters. One thing I'll say for Tanny is that he's at least attempting to address Ol depth by bringing in young talent w/ upside through the draft. Both Bender and Garner have tools to work w/ that could wreak benefit down the line.
Nice signing....Mcfadden's Lineman The New York Jets have announced that they have signed seventh-round pick offensive tackle Nate Garner to a contract. Garner, the 211th overall pick of the draft, started all 13 games at right tackle for Arkansas in 2007, blocking for the RB tandem of 2008 first-round picks Darren McFadden (Oakland) and Felix Jones (Dallas), each of whom rushed for more than 1,000 yards in 2007.Garner played in 37 games in his collegiate career for the Razorbacks. very very nice could be a starter, no < than good depth
OK, Tannenbaum is at work. And he signs the 7th round draft pick, while the #1 pick is still unsigned. And? ... Are we suppsoed to applaud the guy for basically doing his job? What was the point to this post, exactly?
It's attitudes like this that stop me from posting my "Kinko's Guy at Work: He made 8 copies of my presentation today!" threads.
I am a Retard Oh. Ok. Tannenbaum signing a 7th round draft choice is big news. Sorry that I missed it on ESPN all day long. Here's some more big news for you: The Jets coatching staff caught a mouse in a trap they set in the hallway last week. Eric Mangini says: "I'm glad we caught that bugger! He was eating all of our Cheese Doodles!" New York Jets Mike Tannenbaum bought a new car this week."It runs great!" said the NY Jets GM. "I am sure this new vehicle will make me more productive and happy so i can sign even more worthless draft picks to million dollar contracts!" New York Jets owner Woody Johnson promised once again to keep the New York Jets braintrust together no matter what the results are this season. "I don't care if the team goes 0-16, at least I got rid of those losers Bill Parcells and Bill Belichek before I took over the team. I am so happy to have two boy scouts running the team who will never break the rules. In fact, I am going to make sure they spend even more of my countless millions to keep the New York Jets in last place forever and ever! But the important thing will be that we never cheat."
How many UFAs have kept Peyton Manning safe? OL talent is all over the place, you just have to know where to look.
