This is such a depressing time in the NFL right at the beginning of training camp it makes you think how have we been so lucky to go pretty injury free the last few years ,besides Penny, in training camp it seems like the same teams have problems every year.

They are very lucky though. They lose tank wiliiams, who is very underrated by the way, and still have dwight smith. There tune would sound very different if they had to rely on offord as there back-up. Hope for the best.

The Minnesota Vikings are sure glad they signed Dwight Smith two weeks ago.

Vikings coach Brad Childress confirmed on Sunday that strong safety Tank Williams will need to undergo season-ending surgery for a fractured kneecap. Williams suffered the injury during practice on Saturday.

"I feel terrible for Tank," Childress said before practice on Sunday.

Williams, 25, started 57 games in four seasons with the Tennessee Titans before signing as a free agent with the Vikings in March. He posted a career-high 83 tackles, one interception and one sack last season.

Williams was expected to replace Corey Chavous, who signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams in March. But that was before the Vikings signed Dwight Smith to a three-year deal on July 25.

Smith, 27, registered 86 tackles, one sack and two interceptions in 15 games last season with the New Orleans Saints.

In 78 career games, Smith has recorded 309 tackles and 14 interceptions. He returned two interceptions for touchdowns in Tampa Bay's victory over Oakland in Super Bowl XXXVII.

dwight smith is better anyway, i just feel bad for tank...he's a good veteran to have around, and would have been one of the best backups at any position in the league

    but damnn....a fractured kneecap?? wtf??
