By going all in and hoping Manning delivers. They are gonna be in serious trouble two to three years from now.

    1. They pay the positions that should make a substantially more amount of money the most money. QB and LT. Even Von Miller has a cap number of only $6.6M. Peyton was only paid one million more than Revis last season and he's the only reason that team is any thing other than a first round playoff exit. Champ Bailey came off the books. Also, when you have Peyton, you can fill in a bunch of JAGs in slots other than the offensive line. The Broncos are going to go right up against the salary cap this year because Peyton apparently isn't going to play more than one more season (speculative). Then, you have guys like TJ Ward who will take a discount to GTFO of Cleveland and go play in some meaningful games. Basically, they haven't given out any stupid contracts up to this point and now they can go all in. Unlike some teams, like the Raiders, Miami, etc., who consistently overpay for some underperforming JAGs just because they have a hole to fill.

    2. Not unless he's going to take a tremendous pay cut. At just under 15M$ under, the Pats still have to find money to pay their rookies from the draft and have an emergency fund for during the season when Gronkowski gets hurt and they have to go sign Tony Gonzalez or some such other bullshit.

    1. I was asking the same question. The Broncos seem to be pretty flush with spending cash considering Manning's mammoth contract on their books.

    2. It means the Patriots have to do something... or they go into 2014 with Alfonso Dennard and Logan Ryan starting. I'd love to see them go after Revis but, more likely, they'll sign someone else (DRC, Cromartie, Finnegan, etc).

Pretty sure it means that the Broncos know the Manning window is short. They're selling out now, and accepting the cap hell/total rebuild required post-Manning.

They had a pretty healthy 27M$ to spend before FA. The Talib contract is kind of ugly at about 9.5 per since he had a lot to play for last year and may fall off, but the Ward contract is pretty cheap at about 5.5 per. That's about 15M$ so far for sure fire starters, depending on when the contracts are weighted (I bet at least one of them isn't big money until 2015.) If they can get Ware to take a reasonable number like 8 or 9, they'll be cutting it close and it doesn't leave a lot of money leftover, but they're going for broke. Maybe they're banking on a few restructures.

They probably feel as though the other 3 championship teams are going to remain their toughest competitors. They directly took away from the Pats, and they are going to need to have a solid defense to maintain balance and get Seattle and San Fran's offense off the field.

From what I understand, Elway wants to put more emphasis on the defense. What did those 55 TDs get them? nothing. Id rather have 40 TDs and more emphasis on defense rather 55 TDs and a defense that was shaky.
