For my 1000th post I thought I would do something special. Originally, I thought I would create a thread on what you would have done as the new Jets head coach. The concept being you are Eric Mangini, what would you have done differently. However, after today?s game I have decided to scrap that idea and give my personal view on the game. First let me say I have watched the Jets since I was born and am a complete diehard fan. Currently, being outside the tri-state area I went out to watch my beloved Jets taken on an opponent that I thought was beatable (even though I would not openly admit this, superstition and all). When the game started I was pessimistically optimistic as most Jets fans probably are. The first thing I noticed was the Jets seem to play with much more emotion than they use to play with. Something I give Mangini and company full credit for. The next thing I noticed was that penalties one would see called on the Jets are no longer called on the team. I will call this the New England effect, brought over from Mangini. For example, how many times last year would the Jets stop a team on third down only to have a late flag thrown for pass interference. Getting back to the game Chad looked amazing. He did everything a Jet fan could ask for. He took hard, vicious hits and bounced back up from them. Chad played mistake free (the fumble was not his fault he was totally blindsided), he threw short, accurately and when called for showed he could throw the long ball. The Titans came out with a plan. Their plan was to give the Jets nothing on the ground and make Chad beat them. Despite Nugent?s best effort that is exactly what Chad did. When Tennessee finally figured the Jets defense out Pennington was there to play the role of savior. He led the Jets down the field over coming penalties and put the ball in the end zone. It wasn?t a field goal like we all would see under the Herm era it was a TD. Finally, as the game wound down the Jets defense rose to the occasion and closed the door. The Jets had done it. In week 1 the Jets put all the critics such as ESPN John Clayton who said ?The Jets could only get a competitive game if they got Hofstra to come play them? to rest. Sure they are probably not super bowl bound, they may not even be .500 but they played as a team. They picked each other up and they game the fans a reason to believe. Mangini has made the team improve every week and he uses the team?s talent when he coaches. His strategy is adaptable something Herm?s was not. Tennessee would not let the Jets run, they loaded the box all day so the Jets did something novel and threw the ball down field and short. At one point the Jets even threw the ball deep and followed it up with a reverse. So hats off to you this week Jets. You have given me a reason to be happy all week and to look forward to next week and I hope every other Jets fan feels this way. Be proud of your beloved Jets this week because they have shown that improvement is only a week away. Before I end as I always end my posts I would like to thank everyone hear for their responses and reads of my first 999 post. So please post your thoughts and comments J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS
Very astute about this particular strategy that the Titans exhibited. We knew coming in that Chad was going to be tested. Never mind that the running game wss a bit stagnant...thats just the way the Titans D played it. Chad rose to the occasion against a very good defense. That 40+ yard pass to Coles on their last drive to score was an eye opener to the Jets future opponents. Make no mistake, Chad is back!!!
Thanks Kudos to your one thousandth post. Thank you for your thoughtful analysis. Looking forward to reading many more.
