With the loss of Ty Law we could use a CB in the draft (I know we could use a lot of help in dif. positions). What do you think about Antonio Cromartie? FSU's Cromartie shows off for pro scouts By Jim Lamar Special to The Palm Beach Post Friday, March 17, 2006 TALLAHASSEE ? With dozens of NFL scouts and coaches watching, Florida State cornerback Antonio Cromartie picked a good time to dazzle. Cromartie, who did not play during his junior season because of a knee injury, ran times of 4.36 and 4.41 seconds in the 40-yard dash during FSU's pro timing day ? a workout session for the school's draft-eligible players to show their stuff for NFL talent scouts. Cromartie also turned in a 42-inch vertical jump. "All (Cromartie) today did is show what we already knew ? the guy is a phenomenal athlete with the skills to play," said FSU associate coach Kevin Steele, a former NFL assistant. "By the comments we heard, he helped himself a lot." Cromartie was one of roughly 20 Seminoles players taking part in the workouts. At least four NFL head coaches attended the session ? Tom Coughlin (Giants), Romeo Crennel (Browns), Lovie Smith (Bears) and Scott Linehan (Rams). Kirby Smart, the safeties coach for the Dolphins said he was keeping an eye on a handful of top defensive prospects, including linebacker Ernie Sims, defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley and defensive end Kamerion Wimbley. Cromartie is still comfortable with the decision to give up his final two years of eligibility at FSU. "I felt like it was the best decision for me," Cromartie said. "Still, to this day, my mind hasn't changed."
I'd rather not use an early pick on a CB. Let Miller start and see how he does, its time for him to play to his full potential.
I like Miller its David Barrett I'm scared of. He gets beat so many times that makes Jason Seahorn look like a Hall of Famer.
barrett scares me he looks like a deer in headlights at times im sure there are many better options out there.
Agreed. Maybe we pick one up in the later rounds, but we have more important needs to address in the early rounds.
David Barrett was a pretty good player for us in 2004. I think he just had a bad year on a bad team... I look foward to seeing him play like he did in 04'. I think Miller and Barrett is a nice duo.
I am willing to give Strait, Miller and Barrett a shot. Barrett definitaly isn't worth what we're paying him. But, I'm for taking a CB maybe round 5 or 7, just to fill the depth chart up. I am really interested in the Coleman, Rhodes, Maddox, Washington competition for safety.
We will add a corner at some point even if it is just for depth unless we somehow get Dyson. If we trade down and aquire picks, then a corner may be the BPA in a second or third round and still not jeopardize filling more immediate needs. If Cromartie or Youboty are available at 35, you at least gotta consider it.
There's enough young talent on the roster. David Barrett and Justin Miller will be the starters unless by some chance Andre Dyson is brought in. Derrick Strait is in the slot and seems locked in there. The only way a CB should be added is through free agency IMO. It's fine if a CB is picked in the 5th, 6th or 7th, but any place before that is too early.
We can't use another pick on the secondary. We've used 5 in the past 2 years and 7 in the past 4 on it and just randomly throwing draft selections at the secondary isn't going to improve it. Unless Mangold, Winston, McNeill, O'Callaghan, Colledge, Gilles, and Lendale White are all gone at 35 we should not even consider taking a DB there.
I think we will wait for the training camp cuts and maybe add a couple vets for depth but we will not draft a corner above round 4 or 5.
