Statistics wise atleast. Thomas Jones: 532 yards, 4.4 yards per carry. 4 Touchdowns Marshawn Lynch: 450 yards, 3.7 yards per cary. 6 Touchdowns. For some reason I thought Lynch was an amazing running back or something. Jones should have much more yardage than he does, so this stat is surprising to me.
Also, Thomas Jones is #9 in the league in rushing yards. Does this not amaze anyone else? It feels like we never give him the ball. Jeesh, if we did he could be top 5.
Wasn't Lynch dinged up a bit already this year though? And he has 6 TD's to TJ's 4, where 3 of TJ's 4 came from one game.
I don't think Lynch has had a 100 yard game yet. And Mick you don't need to coach rant (again)...whats more important winning games or Jones being a top 5 rusher?
Lynch has started all 7 games this year, and his backup has 49 carries. Jones has started all 7 games this year, and his backup has 27. The point: Fred Jackson wishes he was Leon Washington, but has 22 more carries. WTF?
If we can keep Marshawn to that average on Sunday and not let them close enough to the goal line to let him run it in from 2 yards, we'll have a shot....even if our pass defense if bad. Also, don't forget Fred Jackson, their other rusher. I have even heard rumours that he might start getting an even 50% of carries, or even take the starting spot. I guess you have to contribute some of Jackson;s success to the fact that team's aren't yet considering him as much of a run threat as Lynch. I wonder, if we dedicate the majority of the defensive effort to stopping them from running the ball, will our pass rush and coverage be able to limit their offense enough to account for our unpredictable offensive production and give us the win?
TJ is running so well that I figure we can hold off another year on drafting a RB and make sure we get the safety and WILB we need. We need a Jerod Mayo type who can cover people.
Marshawn is still a beast, but the offensive line has struggled. We should be able to contain them, but Jackson will catch a few passes out of the backfield. They've started to use Lynch there, too.
After watching the replay of the Oakland game...a lot of those Jones runs would have been touchdowns if the dude could have cut either left or right. He's a straight downhill runner.
Would that matter? Ah, it does. Seeing Buffalo has strong front 7, Schotty will run TJ to the ground this week!
I've never been a Mangini fan. Going into 2006 I had the season written off and was in continuous disbelief. Last year was seemingly validation that Mangini was worthless. Coming into this season my belief is behind the skills of the players not the coaching staff. However, going 10-6 through luck is better than a series of competently played games that get us to 8-8. In other words I prefer winning to competence. Unfortunately we've not had enough of either yet this season. Lets hope for some winning this weekend.
Nice...People here just have to find some negativity in everything... Sure enough Lynch has 2 more rushing TDs. TJ has a rec TD aswell...And you gonna complain about the 3 TD performance and just say he has 2 TDs in 6 other games??? You're taking out one of his best games. I could give a crap if Lynch was dinged up. They have about the same number of carries regardless. Maybe you missed TJs 4.4 avg. against Lynchs 3.7...
I've been arguing that Thomas Jones is one of our better players for weeks now. The Jets need to use him more. He does well consistently but for some reason the Jets still pass more than 60% of the time. Favre would only benefit from the defense having to really worry about the running attack.
