WW85, MrElectric and I enjoy a lot of different things in life. WW85 likes to read, mostly civil war era novels, and sometimes he goes to the park and paints landscapes. MrElectric is a science buff, often attempting experiments at his home while watching CSI reruns with his dog Waffles. Personally, I enjoy bird-watching and collecting Canadian coins. One thing we all enjoy though is the Draft, and in that spirit, we decided to do a mock draft for 2010 here on the board. Rather than keep going with our own separate drafts, we're going to do a live mock to get ready for the bigger mocks coming later on. We're going to follow the same basic rules as the other mocks, we'll have a separate pick thread, the discussion will be in here, and we'll rotate our way through. The only differences are that there is no time limit, and that rather than have our respective teams, we'll just go through one by one. We haven't decided how long we're going to go, but we'll have the order for the first two rounds posted. The order was set by the current standings (net points used as tiebreaker), then with it adjusted for what the playoffs would have to be. The first pick will be up soon, so feel free to start commenting right away.
I pick, then MrE picks, then WW picks, then back to me, regardless of teams, all the way through. Kind of like a GM Mock starter kit. We were going to do it by PM, but thought it would just be cooler to it all in the open, so people can make their judgments as we go along.
At this point, Jimmy Clausen to the Rams is a lock. Solid pick that put that god awful franchise in the right direction. I took Suh with the Bucs' pick. I was debating between taking a certain defensive back, but the Bucs' run defense is their biggest problem at this point.
And i'm pretty happy that both of you passed in the best player in the draft. BOOM. Heisman Berry and 4 (though I'd have made the same exact picks you both did at 2 and 3).
I really, really wanted to go defense with the Chiefs' pick, but they have so much money invested in Matt Cassell that I had to draft a tackle to replace him. After giving up a ton of sacks to start the season, the Chiefs are switching over to a zone blocking scheme. Charles Brown fits best into their blocking system and selecting an athletic left tackle like Brown will allow Todd Haley to move Branden Albert either inside to guard or over to right tackle. As you guys know, I'm just not a fan of Russ Okung. He's certainly a good player, but I don't know if he'll have mush success at the next level, particularly in run blocking - I'm going to watch him very closely Saturday night against Texas...maybe his performance will change my mind.
Well, my Lion's selected Taylor Mays. I know Al Davis is going to be pissed. BPA...with filling a need. The Lions drafted Louis Delmas (one of my favorites) in Rd 2 last year and he's playing real well. Mays and Delmas are going to be one of the best Safety Tandems.
Lost out on physical freak #1, thank goodness freak 2 is still there. Even with Seymour, they need help on that D-Line. hopefully they can dump a ton of that salary next offseason.
That was a really tough call for me, but the Fish don't have a ton of obvious needs. My thought is that getting a guy like Williams can really open things up. He reminds me a lot of Reggie Wayne, catch a lot of passes and open things up for other people. They still don't have great size at the position (though I think Turner can be good), but they just need a player.
Damian Williams was a nice pick for the Fins. It looks like their coaching is giving up on the Teddy Ginn experiment. Reggie Wayne is a good comparison.
Sorry I'm taking all of the tackles guys. The draft is just falling that way... I thought about going QB with that pick, but I don't see my top rated QB fitting in well with Seattle.
Agreed.......some believe Ginn may end up in Baltimore with his buddy...Cam Cameron. GH................DW was a nice pick.
I could see Miles Austin ending up in Miami...he's a Parcell's guy, but even if Austin goes to the Fins, they'd still need another wideout.
...just took Mount Cody with the Broncos first pick in the first round. Cody is the perfect nose tackle prospect. Denver is having success with their transition to the 34, but they still lack a big time nose tackle.
49ers take Roland McClain, LB, Bama. A super ILB unit next to MR. Patrick Willis............hey the Head Coach knows something about LBs. Takeo Spikes is a fossil and McKillop is a good back-up.
