This is a Yankees' press release.

YANKEES URGE FANS TO VOTE JASON GIAMBI FOR FINAL ALL-STAR SPOT; ANNOUNCE ?SUPPORT THE ?STACHE? INITIATIVE

**The American Mustache Institute officially backs Giambi as their candidate**

The New York Yankees are urging fans to ?Support the ?Stache? and vote for first baseman Jason Giambi on Major League Baseball?s Final All-Star Ballot.

Fans can cast their votes for Giambi at www.yankees.com, or by texting ?A2? to 36197 (or 88555 for those Yankees fans in Canada). Voting ends at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10. Yankees fans are urged to vote early and often. By voting online, fans will be entered to win one of five authentic Jason Giambi autographed prizes.

The American Mustache Institute officially offered their support for Giambi?s All-Star candidacy today.

?It doesn?t take a mathematician to figure out that Jason Giambi?s hitting prowess plus a fashionable mustache, equals a bona fide All-Star,? said Aaron Perlut, Executive Director of The American Mustache Institute. ?Giambi?s significant first-half production as well as his powerful lip fur ? indicating great intellect and good looks ? make two very compelling reasons for his place on the American League All-Star roster.?

Giambi is batting .256 (63-for-246) with 13 doubles, 18 home runs, 53RBI and 44BB in 78 games this season, leading the team in walks, tying for tops in homers and ranking second in RBI. He is currently tied for fifth in the American League in home runs, ranks seventh with a .393 on-base percentage and ninth with a .537 slugging percentage. In addition, Giambi leads the AL, averaging one home run every 13.7 at-bats and ranks second with 1RBI per 4.6 at-bats.

I voted for Giambi a few times this morning. I think he does deserve to be there this year. Wright too.

Even though he probably showers in HGH every morning, a man with an OPS+ of 148 absolutely belongs in the AS game.

Wright, Giambalco, and Burrell all deserve to be in. Stupid that it comes down to this.

crappy guys like Varitek get on the roster so we end up with this.

Jermaine Dye and Jose Guillen also deserve to be All Stars.

I'm still baffled at how Varitek got in.

I can't believe they're actually referencing that awful mustache in an attempt to get people to vote for him. Based on the numbers he may deserve to go but holy shit is that terrible.

stupid players. There's no regular I know of who is hitting worse than Varitek. The Red Sox fans stuffed the ballot box like crazy and Mauer barely beat him, and then the players put him in. What a sham.

The player vote is completely independent of the fan vote, which makes it more confusing. The only thing I can think of is that a bunch of NL players wanted to try to get their team homefield in the World Series.

What's even more baffling to me is the fact that major league players considered this guy an All Star.

Fans, fine people are stupid and a lot of people vote for their team no matter what at each position.

    But players? .....???

Giambi deserves to get in. People need to let the roid scandal go and just think of the mustache already...

I was wondering how you interpreted my post like that, and then I realized I typed "stupid fans" instead of "stupid players". Oops. Still dizzy from Pikes Peak.

I think the AL should just comprise the entire Devil Rays roster. They are the best team I've ever seen.

I believe in the theory that the mustache is so bad that it is great. I support the stache, plus he deserves to be an all star.

Honestly, this game is such a joke. Not only are the starters a popularity contest with the fans, but the bench is a popularity contest amongst the players. It's ridiculous.

Giambi, Wright, and Burrell should all be there as well as some of the other guys on the AL ballot. There's a lot of other guys not even on the final vote who should be there, the whole thing's a huge sham.

To be fair, Giambi got voted in a couple of years ago when he could barely play owing to some mysterious, ahem, pituitary condition, yeah, that's it.

Could it be that the mustache is hiding new needle marks?

    Just sayin'.
