Have we ever drafted a player in the supplemental draft? Seems a bit risky to me, as he's coming with red flags. And it's not like the kid is a can't miss player - more of a project actually. He needs to put about 50 lbs on that 6'7" frame before he can contribute and will that slow him down?
The demand for OT in the league is high right now--I think he will get drafted but can't decide what round he'll go in--maybe 6?
And he cost us Brett Favre the next year. One of my favorite Syracuse players but Brett Favre is Brett Favre is Brett Favre. _
He does have some red flags; but nothing major - but the kid looks like a LT at the next level and well - we need more tackles. Just a thought - I wouldn't give up a big time pick for him.
Yes, we took Rob Moore, which I believe screwed us on getting Favre in the following draft. I think we also took another WR one year, but I can't remember his name. I thought it might have been Rob Carpenter, but I just checked and it wasn't him.
Rob Moore was a pretty good player and I'm pretty sure we would've screwed up Favre somehow or taken a fullback instead. I'm ambivalent on this, and read that he's likely to cost a 3rd rounder. Assuming we are an improved team this year, one thing to consider is that the 2016 pick we use on him could be at an inflated value, as it is measured by our 2015 draft order. So while we are giving up a pick somewhere around 3(15-32 ), that pick is judged much higher in priority 3(6) in the supplemental. Am I getting that right?
Actually Ron Wolf said that they had Favre as the #1 player on the draft board that year, and they tried to trade up in the 2nd (with the Cardinals) ahead of the Falcons because they knew ATL wanted him but the trade fell through I agree though that we probably would have screwed him up
Realistically he only needs to put on about 30 pounds give or take a few here and there. He can be a very effective player at 310. You don't want round mounds at your left tackle spot that aren't nimble enough for speed rushers.
Could be a brick clone and we'd have time to let him develop into a man and put some weight on. I say 5th and he will be our starting LT in 2 years. Position set for another 10
Don't be busting on my Syracuse guys!! And no, Reggie Rembert was not a Supplemental Draft pick. 2nd round 1990 Draft. Other than Moore, the Jets have not selected another player in the Supplemental Draft. Here's the list. http://www.nfl.com/photos/0ap1000000217328 _
