Scout is reporting Jets have heavy interest in taking Harvey Unga in the Supplemental draft...perhaps as high as a 3rd rounder.

What do you guys think of Unga, and how high a pick would you relinquish to get him?

All I know is what I read in this article, but I like the idea of another "banger" in the stable given Shonn's propensity to get nicked up thus far. But a 3rd seems awful high for a position we're kinda deep at, with another strong pool next year.

Would I like a guy ike Unga? Yup.

Do we have room on the roster? Nope.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we took him. If we do, he'll be a powerback that compliments Greene. I've been saying we need TWO powerbacks for a while.

This kid has great hands and he's at least a second round talent - BYU really screwed him over.

Joe McKnight is not a guarantee, and I think he'll be more of a return specialist early on.

Like Mambo said, the roster is a little crowded.

If we pick him in this supplemental draft, is he on the roster for this season?

Our staff and front office is all about winning now - Harvey Unga would help out a lot, especially if Greene went down.

In my opinion, Unga is an mid-second round talent. Getting him with a third rounder could turn out to be a steal.

I don't think we'll see a player taken until after the 4th round though...even better.

out of curiosity, isn't our 3rd owed to SD for the Cro trade? I mean I know it can elevate to a second, so if we gave up a 3rd, does that mean SD automatically gets the 2nd next season?

Also i can't see us doing it, we would need to carry 6 backs

    Greene
    LT
    Mcknight
    Unga
    T-rich
    Conner

thats a really tough backfield to keep, and unga would definately be required to play ST if he ever would be active during the season....

Question... isn't our 3rd rounder already gone for Cromartie?

    From Rotoworld:

The Rams are expected to opt against participating in Thursday's supplemental draft.
The Rams were thought to be interested in Harvey Unga as a physical backup to Steven Jackson, but there are concerns about a recent ankle injury to the BYU star. His ability to contribute after missing out on offseason practices is also in question. Unga is expected to be a sixth-round pick Thursday, with Illinois DT Joshua Price-Brent projected to go off the board in the seventh round.

Unga was taken in the 7th round by the Bears... good addition for them if he's healthy. Would have been nice if the Jets could have gotten him with a 6th as he'd be a pretty solid replacement for Greene if he went down, but we really just don't have any room on our roster... too bad.

It's a shame we couldn't pick him up, let's be honest though BYU didn't screw him over. He screwed himself. Granted they have some really stupid rules at that school but he knew them and he broke them. That being said having a relationship with a girl on the basketball team shouldn't have been grounds for an issue but I've heard it was more then a dating relationship.

He was having pre-marital sex and he was dismissed from the team because of it.

In my opinion, that's incredibly stupid and the university screwed him over.

Iknow, I know...he made the choice to have sex with the girl, but c'mon.

That's nuts! Think of how much that has professionally affected his career as a football player.
