In a quick dissection of this trade, here are a few other blockbuster trades over the past years to compare the value that the Jets received. Jamal Adams (2020 Preseason) —SEA Gets: -Jamal Adams (SS) -2022 4th —NYJ Get: -Bradley McDougald (SS) -2021 1st -2021 3rd -2022 1st Khalil Mack (2018 Preseason) —CHI Gets: -Khalil Mack (OLB) -2020 2nd -2020 Conditional (Ended up as 7th) —OAK Gets: -2019 1st -2019 6th -2020 1st -2020 3rd Analysis: Jets got more, and a more immediate return. They also gave up less. Jalen Ramsey (2019 Season) —LAR Gets: -Jalen Ramsey (CB) —JAC Gets: -2020 1st -2021 1st -2021 4th Analysis: Jacksonville gave up slightly less, but get significantly less in return. Laremy Tunsil (2019 Preseason) —HOU Gets: -Laremy Tunsil (LT) -Kenny Stills (WR) -2020 4th -2021 6th —MIA Gets: -Johnson Bademosi (CB) -Julien Davenport (OT) -2020 1st -2021 1st -2021 2nd Analysis: The Dolphins got a comparable return package, with a very slight edge to the Jets depending on what you value. However, they gave up significantly more. An additional offensive starter, and more draft capital. Frank Clark (2019 Offseason) —KC Gets: -Frank Clark (DE) -2019 3rd —SEA Gets: -2019 1st -2019 3rd -2020 2nd Analysis: This trade package is not even remotely close to what the Jets received. Jadeveon Clowney (2019 Preseason) —SEA Gets: -Jadeveon Clowney (DE) —HOU Gets: -Barkevious Mingo (OLB) -Jacob Martin (OLB) -2020 3rd DeAndre Hopkins (2020 Offseason) —ARI Gets: -DeAndre Hopkins (WR) -2020 4th —HOU Gets: -David Johnson (RB) -2020 2nd -2021 4th DeForest Buckner (2020 Offseason) —IND Gets: -DeForest Buckner (DT) —SF Gets: -2020 1st Minkah Fitzpatrick (2020 Season) —PIT Gets: -Minkah Fitzpatrick (FS) —MIA Gets: -2020 1st Stephon Diggs (2020 Offseason) —BUF Gets: -Stephon Diggs (WR) -2020 7th —MIN Gets: -2020 1st -2020 5th -2020 6th -2021 4th Dee Ford (2019 Offseason) —SF Gets: -Dee Ford (DE) —KC Gets: -2020 2nd Odell Beckham Jr (2019 Offseason) —CLE Gets: -Odell Beckham Jr (WR) —NYG Get: -Jabrill Peppers (S) -2019 1st -2019 3rd Antonio Brown (2019 Offseason) —OAK Gets: -Antonio Brown (WR) —PIT Gets: -2019 3rd -2019 5th Leonard Williams (2019 Season) —NYG Get: -Leonard Williams (DE) —NYJ Get: -2019 3rd -2020 Conditional (Ended up as a 5th) I included many that are not in the same realm because I wanted to show the variance in trade compensation for star players. Whether it be a lack of leverage, price of a new contract, or impatience, the return value for these players can drop significantly. The conclusion I take from this is: Yes, the Jets have just received the best trade package for a star player (Non-QB) in the past 5 years at least, maybe longer. I will say, I believe Adams is better than every one of these players besides Khalil Mack, but his position generally dictates less value than WR, Edge, or CB.
Thanks for all the work. Interesting for sure. I agree that it is very arguable that this was the best return for a player in many years.
You can not view this trade as anything less than amazing. It truly is remarkable the amount Douglas got from a safety. These are the moves that transform a franchise
That’s a very short sighted statement to make. The jets won the battle but continue to lose the war. The return for Adams is great, no doubt, but when are the Jets going to try and win? That was supposed to start when they drafted Darnold, yet 3 years later the jets are trading away an all pro for future assets (a rebuilding move). Again, the return is great, but no matter what the future assets are, the organization bungled a relationship with an all pro and was forced to trade one of the best players they’ve drafted in a long while. Adams was their best run stopper, cover guy and blitzer. He’s an all pro and widely regarded as the best at his position. He was a leader and building block on defense. The jets drafted so poorly the last 10 years and they finally hit on a pick and still have to trade him because they can’t figure it out. The jets will be lucky to win 5 games this year in Darnolds 3rd year. When other teams are in buying mode to win now, the jets are selling off assets because of their continued mismanagement and dysfunction. Let me repeat, the return if fantastic, but it’s sad that type of move even needs to be made at this point.
The thing that's actually sad is the time you've spent posting on the message board of a team you don't even like 1,596 times.
Good job JD. You made chicken salad out of chicken shit. B. The only way you get a higher grade is if you had convinced Jamal to play out this covid season then accept a long-term team friendly deal in 2021 (A+). Maybe this scenario was impossible, but the impossible is what I give an A+ for.
yes but the player dictated it. period. I think its refreshing to see that the inmates are not running the jets asylum.
You're not wrong. But given the fact that our franchise has been a dumpster fire for a decade because of the power structure that's been in place, it was the right move for the franchise at this point in time.
