Everyone has been saying that Abe is not a good fit in a 3-4 Defense... I voted to draft SuperMario, but considering his similarities to Abe..I don't know anymore. SuperMario seems to be a very similar player to ABE,...so does this mean that we will not be going after Willimas? I did read that Williams is equally proficient against the run and rushing the passer? Anyone seen this guy play much?..Is he more versaite than Abe as his player profile suggests? http://nfl.com/draft/story/9315053
I would not at all object to us drafting Mario. It's very rare for that type of athlete to come around.
Mario Williams is 6'7" and 290 LBs!!! Thats a big diff - plus he is fast and I mean fast. If he is there take him or trade he pick o some one who'll take him.
Williams is alot bigger Height: 6-7 | Weight: 295 | 40-Time: 4.66 depending on what scouting report. Abe is 6-4 260? Abe would probably fit well at the OLB position in the 3-4 Williams best comparison is Peppers but that might be a little too high. His so called weakness is that he takes plays off that migth be the only Abe comparision.
Williams is not best suited for the 3-4 (his potential as a pass rushing 4-3 DE is incredible), but he can effectively play it. Besides, if you give Mangini a player like Williams, and he will make sure he uses him correctly.
If he can be as useful as seymour is to the pats, I'd take him. And it seems like he s being projected as a star.
great player in the 4-3. In the 3-4 I'd rather get someone else at that spot or trade down and take manny lawson as I think he has the versatility to line up at end in the 4-3 and OLB in the 3-4. I dont think williams could play OLB and his passrush talent would be wasted at a 3-4 DE
Well, at 6'7 and 290 pounds, he certainly has the size to be a 3-4 end, but I hear he isn't very suited for that position. He'd make a phenomenal 4-3 end, but not so sure he would be as effective in the 3-4. I'd still rather trade down from the #4 spot, simply because there is so much talent in the first two rounds, and so many holes to fill on this team.
Sign me up for the Mario Williams bandwagon. The Jets either need a #1 pass rusher or a #1 cornerback or our defense is going to be one of the worst in football.
He'd be phenomenal in a 43, he'd be phenomenal in a 34, the difference is that the impact of a great 43 end is much higher than a great 34 end. Don't misconstrue the comments made by myself and some others about Mario to mean that he's not suited for the 34, it's just that when you have a player like Mario, you want to give him the freedom to have the type of impact he's capable of. It's like comparing Dwight Freeney to Richard Seymour, who's better at their respective positions is debatable, but I don't think there'd be many that disagree with the fact that Freeney has a bigger tangible impact.
abe and mario would be better compared to peppers and freeney rather than semour and freeney. if mario is anyhting like peppers (imo he is) than id rather have him than the freeney/abe type player.
I'm not comparing Mario to Freeney as a player in the slightest bit, just illustrating a point about 43 end and 34 ends in general. Also, nothing to do with Abe in my post. It's all about Mario's fit with the Jets, and the type of impact he'd have in the 2 different defenses.
we ARE NOT getting williams.. we are switching to a 3-4 defense and his greatest strength as a 4-3 DE would be neutralized by our scheme.. sure, he can play it well.. but not as well as if we used a 4-3 D... we are trading down and stockpiling picks.. i'd rather have manny lawson in the early second round to wreak havoc as a blitzing OLB..
I KNOW WHAT YOU WERE SAYING! i just took it further as a comparison of what we had, and quite possibly what we could look forward to if we get mario.
