I'll start with my observations of last night game. Much already pointed out on other threads. Feeling better about our chances but room for improvement. The Good a) Sanchez rhythm and overall play. He looked solid b) Offensive line much improved with Howard. No longer a horror story c) McKnight good at returning kickoffs - Why is he not running/catching the ball on third down? d) Superb defensive line play across the board. Opposing QB will start to fear our capabilities and hear footsteps e) Stand outs tonight -Howard, Landry, Coples, Ellis, (Mabin was close but not quite there) The Bad a) Our running game particularly on third down b) Stupid penalties cost us field position c) Can we drop any more balls when it hits receivers in the numbers? d) Injury to Harris, Keller and the rest of the TE a concern The Ugly a) Our receiving corps is weak, frail and ineffective particularly in the red zone b) Second team OL a real concern - No depth c) Who will the opposition fear on offense....no one right now. We need a play maker Fire away
Anybody have a link or a good list of TE's/RB's that might become available or wouldn't require a king's ransom in a trade?
I think people tend to forget that the JesusCat will be up and running come Sept. 9th. When the Jets get down into the red-zone or maybe inside the 10, the spread option is going to be a real weapon.
The Good - The Jet's D is too good for this team to collapse. The Bad - The offense is going to struggle to score points. The Ugly - The Jets are wasting a season that might have been great and we have no idea if the offense will be any better next season as a result.
Good: Sanchez in play-action, or with time in the pocket. The D will be hell on fuckin wheels. Bad: Tebow in the pocket. Wayne Hunter vs anybody Ugly: Not getting a TD all preseason. Injuries to DK, DH, JB.
Not much to add, really. Your assessment was spot on. Agreed with Br4dw4y5ux too. This could end up being a huge waste of a very very good defense and really...if the offense continues like this will it result in something better next season. Depending upon how this unfolds we are looking at a WR and RB with our first two picks next year...easily. Sanchez is looking quite good actually. I wonder what he would look like with a legitimate weapon or two. As the season goes on time will tell but I am not liking, overall, what I see. Yes, we may be rolling vanilla right now but even vanilla can be executed better than this. We lack execution.
The Good -The defense! We might have our best defense yet. Containing Cam Newton was incredible. Welcome to NY Landry! -Landry – again because he was soo fuckin awesome. Good reads and tackling, smacking WR on slant routes, pass rushing beast at DB. He came to play. -The offensive line looking better. Howard played well. The Bad -Drops and penalties. -I am going to catch some flak for this one but the Panthers defense looked pretty bad and still we bogged down once we cross midfield. I am blaming the QBs. They cant just make one or two good plays a drive. We got to sustain a drive to 6 points. This was a fairly easy defense and they still kept us out of the end zone. Hoping for more consistency from the QB position. The Ugly - Calling the same inside trap run 4 out of 6 plays on one drive. After the second time we should have play actioned off it – instead we ran it twice more for losses that didn’t fool anyone. That is a drive killer. - Clock management. How about this one. When Sanchez picked up the 4th down on a sneak it looked like he was a little short. I was worried the Panthers would challenge. Instead of rushing up to the line and getting another play off we sat around until a delay of game was called. That’s pretty ugly.
If, Tebow forbid something happens to Mark Sanchez I hope Sporano and Rex don't plan on trying to run a conventional offense with Tebow like they did in the preseason. I like to think they were giving Tebow those snaps to try to get him experence under center and in the pocket. If Mark goes down, I hope they realize they need to basically scrap the offense and do what the broncos did. Tebow in the shotgun is much better than Tebow in the pocket (like we saw in the last drive).
Tebow clearly cant throw when he is rolling to the right. They should just forbid him from doing it right now. I also agree with going to a shotgun because he doesn't understand our offense. It his first year with the Jets and only his second year overall so I can forgive him for that but we need a backup who does understand what we are doing. I look forward to this weeks game to see the othr backups.
It's the first year we've had Sparano calling plays, that is a horrible point. This is his third NFL season. Tebow just can't throw, he has a very slow release, he is indecisive, he stares down receivers forever, holds the ball too long, and can't read defenses even when they are as vanilla as it gets. He is not an NFL QB. If Sanchez goes down, our only hope is if they scrap the offense and run a spread offense.
Saying Tebow doesn't understand our offense is a horrible point? He doesn't understand it. FYI - Not understanding a system makes QBs "indecisive, stare down receivers forever, hold the ball too long, and can't read defenses". His throwing problems I cant defend.
But the system completely changed from last year. You said it's his first year with the Jets, which is why he doesn't understand it. It's the first year the Jets have had this system. Should then, everybody get this excuse?
The OP left out Cro's play, pretty much all game long. Cro would have gotten a game ball in the regular seson for a game like that.
Defense: Our DEF is rock-solid and playing lights out. So much for that side of the ball. They're going to be a fun bunch to watch. Special Teams: eh.... Offense: We have 3 Pro Bowlers on the O-Line and I believe there is no other team in the NFL that can boast that. I think the running game looks solid. Our WRs are going to be adequate in this system. So now, this all begs the question: Why aren't we moving the chains and scoring? I know Sanchez lovers will cricify me, but who else can you look at now as to why our Offense hasn't scored one freaking TD all Preseason? I don't care what anybody says, he still looks scared and tentative in the pocket. He has moments of consistency, then sails balls too high or behind the intended target, even on dump offs and check downs. He make the receiver "work" to catch the ball... behind him, to the downhill side, at the ankles, over the head. We've got 4 years invested now and I don't see much. Well, I don't see enough, let's put it that way. Sparano was smart to let Tebow play pure passer last night. Give him the reps as a pure passer to sharpen his skills, because I have a feeling we're going to need him in there. And here we go again....
