Although all teams were facing the same set of circumstances, I believe the strike really affected the Jets. Starting with the front office, who were faced with an inordinate number of key decisions to make, the moves were made quickly and perhaps were not as well thought out as they would have been if made over the course of a normal off-season.

I know Sanchez held a Jets-West type camp, but you have to wonder if he has the maturity to conduct these sessions in the same manner and with the same intensity than if the Coaching Staff ran them

Most significantly, Mangold, & Slauson look extremely fat this year; even D'Brick looks a little paunchy. The lack of off-season conditioning has to be taking a toll here. Add to that Moore's diminished ability to recover from his injury.

I know the Jets are not the only one's in this situation. Eagles are pointing to diminished off-season work as a reason why their line has been below par.

I'm not saying this as an excuse. I think this Jets team is an under-talented team, who over-achieved in the past due to coaching and a positive approach. The lack of the OTA's hurt a team like the Jets, and has basically leveled the playing field throughout the AFC, which is why you see a number of flawed teams, with no AFC team firing on all cylinders. When was the last time you saw so many teams with multiple flaws, like we are seeing this year.

no, a lot of veteran teams faced the same off-season without deterioration.

the front office let down the team. we need at least one competant right tackle, another decent tight end, running back and both linebacker and safties with speed and the ability to actually tackle. the pass rushing demon would be a bonus.

we have the draft and free agency to look for those guys. trading away multiple draft picks doesn't work. the pats stockpile picks, so even if some don't pan out, they still end up with more players than we do.

outside of last year's playoff game, the games against the pats have been one-sided with us on the losing end.

consideirng how well rookie QBs and head coaches have done, i don't really buy it. is it a factor? Sure, but it should be negated by other teams experiencing the same thing. and in some cases, with higher turnover

I think people are looking for way too many reasons to excuse this team.

    Yep.

If you want to say this is caused by a short offseason, fine. But they knew all summer what they wanted to do, and either they executed what they wanted and just misread what they wanted to do, or they misread the market, and were forced to scramble just to bring some guys back in.

That, I will buy. But all summer, I was hearing the Jets would be helped out by the short offseason since we have so many core players back, including HC, OC, DC, and QB. If anything, we had an advantage personnel-wise.

Though, remember, half of the guys from Jets West camp are gone.

I saw it the other way around. Rookies are coming into the league in over their head anyway - the lockout was a setback for everyone and it leveled the playing field.

And this is key. The current receiving corps in particular was absent for the most part. I don't buy the argument that Sanchez was too immature to run it properly. With something like that, people aren't just getting Sanchez. They're getting the work of his entire family, all of whom helped to put things together. I have little to no doubt that everything was conducted properly.

Maybe the Jets should hire Sanchez's mom to coach the offensive line next year.

    Tamales for everyone!

the problem with the jets is that if schotty were a high school coach his teams would still suck.

This. It's a minor annoyance, but it was a lockout.

Considering how many "core" players returned, don't think this is legit excuse for Jets problems. Too much time spent on Aso. With such a short FA period, there was very little time to get signings done once Aso was done stringing the Jets along.

Instead of lack of OTA, I think Jets struggles are from:
    - Started w/ little OL depth & gambled they wouldn't have to pay the penalty for such a risk.
    - Keller + Hot Garbage @ TE.
    - No upgrades @ safety.

The lockout is right up there with the "dog ate my homework " excuse. It looks like a simple conglomerate of errors this offseason..............

Jets are one of the teams that had it the easiest.

Teams bringing in a new coaching staff, new QB, etc etc really were hurt by the total lack of mini camps, and such.

All we had was our entire coaching staff, QB and most of our team return from last season.

Hey, but maybe that's the real problem. Shotty returned.

If this wasnt a shortened offseason, I would be calling for Tannenbaum to be fired. But, it was, and we have to just give him the benefit of the doubt and give him one more chance.
