I love this guy as a player...when he plays....

He has a ton of talent but throughout his career has been just unable to stay on the field.

I would have to say as a result of that he has been more of a liability all year then a factor...

I really think the Jets should let him go this offseason and plug someone in there who can stay on the field.

Again, this is not a knock on the guy. I think he has a ton of talent, but that talent is no good when you can't stay on the field. And this is not just from looking at one year, its from looking at the course of his career.

Does anyone know how long his contract is?

The Guy played a good game and I say keep him around and let him rotate

he did...for the quarter and a half he played....

he is in rotation as it is...but if we are going to count on him to play and he just can't stay on the field how can we keep him on the roster?

I'd say if we can find a viable replacement let him go, but I don't know what options are out there.

He's good for a rotational guy. Keep him around to attack the screen plays but he needs to have someone behind him who can step in when he gets (inevitably) injured.

I think it would be a big mistake to let him go. We need to add another CB, no doubt, but we can keep Strickland for cheap. I would imagine both Coleman and Shepperd are gone. I think it would be a good idea to keep him as long as we are not dependent on him, as in having him as our starting CB opposite Revis.

You guys should stop saying we should cut all these serviceable players. We are very limited in who we can sign this off-season.

Because of the uncapped year and our being among the final 4, we can only sign FAs who become FAs because they were CUT, or FAs who were on our roster this season. I think we may also be allowed to sign UFA's if we lose a UFA of equal or greater value (contract). I think they have to sign with someone else before we can pursue anyone.

We've also traded away several draft picks so, we are not going to be cutting many players we have under contract. With Lito's option not likely to be picked up, Strickland is gonna stay a Jet. Strickland is signed through 2011 with a salary of $1,150,000(2010), and $1,250,000 (2011).

I know we trade our 3rd and 5th for Braylon and a late pick for O'Connell (6th?). Does anyone know for sure if we have our 4th rounder? I've read different things about our trade for Lito. Do we owe the Eagles our 4th or was the 5th from the 2009 draft all that was lost? We may only have our 1st, 2nd and 7th rounders. :(

I do agree with you...If he can be replaced then I say do it...if not don't...

but his ability to stay healthy concerns me

can't rely on a guy with solid talent if he can't stay on the field.

and this is exactly my point....

if we can have a viable way to replace him then I say do it...

if not then getting rid of him is counterproductive

Keep in mind Rex has an eye for the undrafted FA...

does the rule state we can't sign FA's with 6 years experience or does it include ALL FA's including the undrafted variety

If you can find a #2, then you don't have to rely on Strickland, but he's still good depth, so there is NO reason to let him go. He can be a nickel or dime back. Injuries happen and if our #2 goes down next year, maybe Strickland can step in for a game or two before he gets hurt again. :)

strickland was never asked to step into the # 2 role...he was always a situational guy...and even in that limited role he couldn't stay on the field

The point was that he's good depth.
