Guys I am new here, and am a Steelers fan. We had a 3 round mock draft at Pittsburgh Live, and I had the NYJ. Figured I would post what I got and see how you felt I did. I think we did okay, but you guys would have a much better feel for this than I. 1.4: Mario Williams, DE, NCST. DBrick and Leinart were gone, though I didnt consider Leinart. Figured he could play the Willie McGinest Rush OLB position in Mangini's 3-4. 1.29: Nick Mangold, C, OSU. This pick was made before the NYJ signed Trey Teague. I figured Mangold had more value to the NYJ than any other team, since it allows Kendall to move back to LG, where he is better. Mangold can step in immediately, allowing Teague to play LT or RG, depending on how they feel about Adrian Jones. Had I known they were signing Trey Teague, Manny Lawson could have been considered here, or Eric Winston. 2.35: Demeco Ryans, LB, Alabama. I love this pick, as many mocks have him going late 1. He is a heady LB, and may be the smartest defensive player in this draft. Mangine will make this guy a star, and the LB corps starts to look pretty good. 3.71: Jeremy Trueblood, OT, Boston College. I think Adrian Jones returning at LT, allowing Jeremy to step into the RT position is a huge advantage. He may be able to start on the right side immediately. Trueblood, Teague, Mangold, Kendall and Jones looks much better than last year. 3.97: Brodie Croyle, QB, Alabama. I like Croyle to the Jets b/c he comes from a pro style offense and he is a heady player. Not a ton of measurables, but Tom Brady doesnt have them either. He is also incredible value at this spot. Mangini may not pick Croyle, but I think he is the type of QB he will look for. We started round 4 and then abandoned it. I was targeting Jerious Norwood (RB, Miss St) or Travis Wilson (WR, Okla) at our first 4th round selection. Then was thinking Barry Cofield (DT, Northwestern) with our second selection. He would end up playing DE in the 3-4, and is versatile enough to play DT in the Nickel. Any thoughts or suggestions? Here is the entire 3 round draft:
Yeh it looks pretty good, I am not high on Trueblood and would prefer O'Callaghan, but if we did end up with this draft I would be very happy
I like Demeco a year ago in the 4-3, but we are now running a 3-4 which I don't think he would play well in.
Helllls NO! Are you Nutz? Super Mario is more of a NEED. We don't really Need Hawk. *Steelers Fans. Nice Mock and I hate Mocks!!!
I'm sorry but I am not buying into all of the Williams hype. He doesn't consistently play hard, played with an exceptional supporting cast in college, is very suspect in playing the run, and basically is still a work in progress. IMO, he is not the next Julius Peppers. I have been wrong before but IMO, Hawk is clearly the best defender of the bunch, the only sure thing.... Now you did mention the "need" pick, but that is another argument all together, BPA or need pick. We can discuss that in another thread but to be honest I could probably make an argument for Ngata (although the injuries may scare me) over Williams if we are discussing needs. But with all of that said, I still want to go Offense with our first pick....
Just curious, and I am not being facetious, have you ever actually watched any of Mario's games? I know some here are more strictly into the pro game and only watch highlights and such which can cloud the picture. Mario Williams has all the potential in the world and can go on to be a HOF DE in this league, but IMO he can just as easily be the next Courtney Brown (okay maybe a bad example but you know what I mean). There are weaknesses in his game that if not improved upon will make him JAG. Again, IMO Hawk is the only sure thing on the defensive side of the ball in this draft. He may not turn out to be the best when all is said and done, but he will definitely be top notch. So do you take a chance, or take the safe bet. Tough call...
