This is the second straight week the Jets were badly outplayed in special teams. It cost us last week and it kept Miami in the game today when they should have been buried early.

Can someone please explain why Kerley returns punts? Stacy returns kicks? They might be our two slowest skill position players. We never have any spark on returns. Maybe we could put Devin Smith back there, or one of our speedy DBs... anyone but these two.

And on the other end, our punt coverage is just bad. Sproles and Landry killed us two straight weeks. This needs to be fixed ASAP. Is it personnel, coaching, or both?

Oh, and Quigley is still our punter, 28th in the league at 42 yards/punt.

I can't imagine that Bobby April is asking to have Kerley return punts and Stacey to return kicks, much less the scrub squad he has covering either one.

But that's the only conclusion I can come to. His units have been atrocious. Worse than the last guy and I can't even remember his name.

Right now rather see Devin Smith returning kicks and punts than running horrible pass routes and not knowing where to turn his head on every pass to him, also this is the nfl brainfart tackle the guy after the int, cost us 40 yards of field position....Quigley deserves to be cut

At least Devin Smith can be coached up. Quigley is what he is. I'd rather see the Jets go find another Aussie kicker.

Personnel mostly imo. Mac did a great job turning the roster over but there's some holes yet to be filled that couldn't be accomplished in one offseason.

Quigley is inconsistent come game time. Has a big leg and can make all the kicks, but come game time his inconsistency is an issue

NFL.com says Quigley averaged 29 yards per punt today? I don't remember one single punt that short.

    46 yards
    38 yards
    38 yards
    51 yards
    39 yards

Not sure how that averages out to 29 yards per punt. It's 42.4...Guessing they subtract return yards when figuring out punt distances which is dumb as that's beyond his control. Not his fault there's 5-6 missed tackles per return.

Don't know wether to point at couch or roster as they have just been sorry all together. Might just be spoiled by watching years of Westhoff ST units, but this crew doesn't seems to make much contribution to game.

When the roster started changing in 2011 the ST's went down fast under Westie too.

Actually, even before Westie left, ST's were in decline.

A couple of things, first and foremost our kick/punt coverage is awful. They gave the Dolphins returners so much room to run and they looked like they didn't even care to tackle them. This is something I have to believe is on the coach unless our scrubs really have no business on the ST unit. This was something that Westhoff made sure that the backups could play special teams well.

Quigley is hot garbage and we refuse to ever spend even minimal resources to find a punter. Perhaps we could draft or trade like a 6th or 7th rounder to replace someone who was basically an UDFA tryout player. This is a defensive team and even 5-10 yards better punts gives a better opportunity for our defense to make stops.

I'd have to go back and look at it, but Folk seems to be missing more kicks. He was automatic for us when we sucked on offense of course, but now that we are in games, he's gotta make 40 yard or closer field goals.

Why is Stacy returning kicks? He's like a bruiser type of runningback, not really the type of player you want returning kicks.

Don't know why they down play field position, we get out punted and out returned every game, a defensive team with a good running game and mediocre QB should value field position

Kerley is not gonna get any yards back but there's no way he's gonna fumble or muff the punt. Jets could do a lot worst in the punt return game. Kickoff return game could use some improvement and I think it can be improved this season by rotating some other guys into that role or giving tryouts to players who barely missed making rosters this year (or perhaps someone else's practice squad players?)

The big special teams killer is punt & kickoff coverage. It's game-breaking bad. Sometimes, I think Quigley should try aim to kick it out of bounds 30+ yards down the field but then again he kinda sucks too. Think it's gonna take another offseason to upgrade the punt coverage, because too many roster fringe players need to be replaced to make an impact there. Would love to see the Jets get a kickoff specialist who can just boom it out of the endzone also.

42 yard punt as high as you can kick it and a fair catch like Dave Jennings did at the end of his career

The problem with Quigley is he has zero hang time on his punts.

Even his better punts distance wise only stay up for a couple seconds. Gives the coverage teams less time to get down there and the return guy with plenty of room to move.

There's really no reason why we cant find someone else with a booming leg.
