One of the innovations that is going to be required for a manned Mars mission is a significant radiation shield for the crew. This is probably technology job 1 for the mission, although they are working on faster propulsion systems as well. In the end they will need both. The shield is very likely to be water-based with a significant volume of water shielding all the manned spaces. My theory is that they should find a flavored additive for the radiation shield that also enhances the protection and pre-mix it before launch. Then the crew could sip off the shielding for the months it takes to get to Mars. Back on Terra Firma the rest of us will enjoy the marketing of this wonderful radiation-proof drink. They could even make this Tango-iodide collectable by running large volumes of it through the spacecraft shield assembly during testing, pressure testing and what not. Kids would go nuts for the stuff if they were told that it had actually been in the spacecraft at some point. The marketing campaign might even sell enough to pay for the voyage. When Elon Musk does this just remember I thought of it first.

Some day in the distant future, in the middle of the capital of Mars there will be a giant statue of Elon Musk, the forefather of Martian culture. I actually don't mind the privatization part. Governments suck.
Apparently, it is disappointing if you look at the reviews, as a sad Fallout 4 fan I was going to buy some just to sit around the house lol
Privatization effectively replaces government and it's associated electoral virtues with the will of individuals and corporations. Imagine living in a society privatized and ruled by Putin or Trump or Exxon or Amazon. You'd be begging for elections in a nanosecond. However if you really want to see the long-term effects of privatization just look at all the kleptocracies in Africa. Those are 90% strongman plus corporate rule and where capitalism goes when it surrenders to privatization is on vivid display there.
