Watching today's game I was struck by how different it felt watching this team play from previous years. In the last 5 years, we played a ton of close games. However, there always seemed to be a cloud of doom hanging over the game...disaster was always around the corner. If we won a close one, it seemed to be in spite of ourselves.

This year it seems different. If we lose , we're going down swinging. Maybe it is the aggressive playcalling...maybe it is the Mangini attitude...I'm not sure. The bottom line is we got beat by the best QB in the NFL, doing what he does best. However, when we started lateraling on the last play, I actually thought for a second, it was gonna work.

There is something different in the air...and I like it.

Whats great is the new offense, and the games are so much more excited. Theres big plays, gutsy calls, I used to fall asleep watching the way too conservative play calling..

I know what you are feeling because as I was pissed that we lost I felt that our players left it all out on the field and that the coaching staff gave the players the best opputrunity to win that game. I don't by he crap about we lost because we went for it on 4th down. We lost because the Colts are a good team and they like all good teams do made the plays when they needed to. WE are not quite at that level but I think we are well on our way.

Now when we lose, we know we just didn't deserve to win because like you said we're going down swinging. Under Herm, there was always that part of you that felt he was responsible in some way

In previous years, I would be worried if we looked like shit in the first quarter... but nowadays, I'm not worrying at all because I know they will show up in the 2nd quarter.

Thats part of our problem. Once we start showing up for 4 quarters we win games like this.

I agree though, this team is scrappy...they make you feel like there going to win no matter who lines up on the opposite side of the ball...or that they'll at least put up one hell of a fight.

the defense isn't there yet. they are still too soft at the end of the half and at the end of the game. they have communication problems and coverages they have to work out. It is only natural. I expect them to be much improved by year's end. They will need to get a big time lineman this off season

Absolutely it feels different. From what I have seen so far Mangini has earned my trust and confidence. The biggest thing I wanted to see in the first couple of games is whether or not he would be outclassed as a coach - and it really seems quite the opposite so far.

I expect the team to bounce back against the Jags this week. I also expect the players will be repeating the same mantra all week long "you have to play at a high level for four quarters". Mangini will ensure this is stressed during this weeks practices and it should show up on Sunday.

I feel like I am watching the start of great program. In some ways watching a season like this(if things keep up) is almost as satisfying as watching a winning season. Seeing a great thing develop from the beginning brings a special kind of satisfaction.

have you notcied that our 2 losses the "cloud of doom" has come through and the 2 wins we let teams back into games they shouldn't have been close in? yep we got beat by a top QB But we shouldn't have, at worst we should have been in OT, if we didn't waste 2 TOs we should have had time to win it. This is one of the worst losses of the past decade.

I agree DBJ, there is something different and I like it!! I did feel for a second that we were going to take one of the laterals to the end zone!

No question yesterdays loss was a knife in the heart. What is very clear about this team is Mangini inherited a team with really bad players on the OL and the front 7. This offseason was dedicated to rebuilding the OL which still isn't done. On the D side we pretty much brought in hold the fort guys in the offseason. It's going to take a couple of great FA signings and at least 1 or 2drafts to rebuild both of our lines. Until that happens, teams are going to be able to come back on us and every win is going to be about can we out finese the opposition for long enough to get a lead and hold on.

That's not clear at all, what's clear is w/ a healthy Chad we have playoff talent on this team. What's clear is mangini is trying to put a round peg into a square hole(a favorite expression of herm bashers). We have alot of talent on D but we are running the wrong system.

I think part of it is Mangini's INSISTENCE that you dwell for 5 seconds, good or bad and move on and prepare for the next game, he REFUSES to 1. let these guys or himself get overly pumped up or DOWN about a situation, he is 4 years younger than me and commands this team with a fervor of a coach who has done this for YEARS.

Yea he blew it on the 4th and goal situation but dammit, it took BALLS that Herm would NEVER have had to do that and face the New York faithful.

This team will be 500 or below this season but this team is a few good players from being a LEGITIMATE SB contender!

nyjunc ... I AGREE with this assessment as it relates to our D, Our Nose Tackle needs to be changed and Vilma IS NOT a 3-4 LB he's a BEAST in a 4 - 3 system but Mangini is HELL BENT on this system and TRUST will bring in the RIGHT people to handle it.

I LOVE the offensive philosophy in as much as it allows Chad to do what Chad does BEST use his BRAIN, because he has a noodle arm, Chad is on par with the BEST thinking QB's in the league, this system allows for him to think on the FLY. The WCO or at least Paul can't Hacketts version of it WAS NOT for Chad.

If we can just get a RUNNING GAME, we WONT have rely on Chad to be a saviour every week.

I love waht this CS has done for the most part but as bad as the decisionw as to go on 4th down the decision to run 37 times and pass just 23 also cost us. Indy couldn not stop our passing game and yet we continued to try to run, the sequence that ended up w/ the 4th and G was a good example. We had 1st and G from the 7 and ran it 3 times setting up 4th and G from the 3. If he wants a TD so bad why are we running 3 times? The playcalling was the worst it's been all year and the first time I have really questioned it- it was hackett-esque yesterday.

Yea I agree the play calling was suspect but I have to say under this team we perservered, under the Edwards regime we would have crumbled and given up.
