Probably nothing too new then has been discussed in some other threads but with my lack of time these days I figured I'd just quickly mention some things I noticed.

First Mangini - Most of you know I liked Herm and still do but I've said all along that Mangini has the potential to be a good one and I was happy with his selection as HC. So far through 3 games I see some good and some bad.

Good: Team is finishing games well and they do seem to be playing a lot like a team as they should. Players are seeing some of the results of what he tried to do in TC.

Bad: Too many penalties, still starting games too slow, can't stop the run.

Bottom line is that while I seemingly didn't mention that much "good" I think the overall job he's done to get the team to perform like they have has put this team on the right track. Right now he's getting a lot of help from Chad's play but Mangini should only get better

Chad is playing incredible for the most part with some of that going to actually having a healthy line that is keeping him upright. Add in the WRs doing a great job making some tough catches and running after the catch and our offense looks pretty good. Amazingly this is without a running game

Still with the offense I have to say I'm liking Schottenheimer Jr. He's showing that he has some potential and I read the players are liking his creativity. I know I've enjoyed the pre-snap movement and the no-huddle. Some props have to go to Mangini too here for letting Chad do more, especially as a rookie HC.

RB - I want to see more Houston. Don't think Mangini's done a great job here relying a bit too much on Barlow but there's probably more going on here too.

Defense - Big plays from Rhodes. Other then that they are pretty quite but making stands when they need too. Barton being back is definitely helping as you can see him all over the place. Don't think they're really suited yet for the 3-4 but as I've said before most every coach installs their "scheme" when they take over and we fans just have to live with the learning curve/growing pains. The plus side though is the D does have flashes and look like they could really excel in time.

Graham was a monster last Sunday and Nugent had a rough start but seems to be back on track.

Overall with the weak AFCE there is a slight chance we could actually take the division. I think as someone else mentioned in another thread, it will really come down to beating NE in NE. Miami doesn't look too good and we just beat Buffalo on the road so if we can win most of the games we should (i.e. like GB, Oakland, etc) and some of the games that might be close (i.e. Minn, Miami) the season could be quite interesting. Either way while I don't like all the decisions this FO have made I at least give them credit for trying to improve the team and it looks like we could be in pretty good hands.

Nice post. Some very good points. I notice no replys....most posters don't have time for a post thats thought provoking & makes sense. What is the slowness with Mangini using Houston....good question. It seemed like a no-brainer. As you mentioned, there is more going on behind the scenes.

Jets' are entertaining, thats the best part of the season so far. They have a solid coach that can bring alot of wins for the Jets. The future looks bright right now for the Jets'.

i'm thinking houston's fumble in the last pre-season game? or maybe he was just out-worked in practice...this sunday against the porous colts run defense, i'm sure he'll get more carries

We have 2 very tough games ahead of us in Indy and Jacksonville. These games will only make our players get better. Our defense and O-Line are getting better every week and before you know, we will be clicking on all cylinders. We also see Mangini constantly trying to upgrade our depth with the recent signings. It's only a matter of time when us Jets fans can be completely happy with our team.

I expect a great run at the end of the season...including NE at NE.

To one of your points early on about there being too many penalties:

Herm always had this team in the top 1 or 2 least penalized, and we ended up going about .500 while he was here.

Personally, I'm starting to think that's one of the few things that he was good at... have a gander at KC. I bet they have very few penalties, and I bet they're looking at a 6-10 season -- if they're lucky.

Also, statistical analysis that I have no current reference to at the moment proves that being penalized has less to do with winning than having the lead at the end of the first quarter.

You lost me at " I liked Herm....." He was horrible. We would be 0-3 under Herm. We are 2-1 under Mangini with I think a good chance for the upset this week. We are smarter, tougher, better conditioned, better coached, better managed and more aggressive than at any time under Herm. The aggression leads to more turnovers which you mentioned, but adds much more in terms of playmaking ability, dynamicism of the players, and unpredicablilty. Herm was so passive and predictable that it leant itself to less penalties. I believe than Mangini and his staff will fix the running game (Think our first President and ground control for NASA) and will improve in defending the run. I know we will be better each week than the last. I am a bazillion percent behind Mangini, Tanny, Schott and everyone else. It is a great day to be a Jet fanatic. And Herm should rot until the day he is fired this year in KC after dismantling them with his ineptitude.

The big talk on all the boards pre-season and right after the Tangini hire was be patient..it takes time. It appears Tangini has alot less patient then us..When Mike T said no rock will be left unturned I see what he means..bringing guys in to fix the problems we see..and quickly. They will fix the penalty issue quickly. I mean seriously dude, whats not to be happy about after last year.almost every rookie drafted is making good contributions, we play smart, the game plans are solid and the team looks together..period!!
