If Leinart is there I would really think about trading down with Oak and then take Justice. On the Qb front I would take Coyle or Jacobs. They both have tons of talent and we can give them time to develop.
according to this CNNSI writer and the accompanying poll, Croyle is the most overrated player in the draft. I don't know if that's true *Cough Vince Young Cough*, but Croyle's up there. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...draft/2006/04/21/pauline.overrated/index.html
I've been thinking - If Leinart is there - between the Tenn / USC relationships and Chow working with Leinart, Fischer a USC alum... On and on... If they pass on him, I certainly don't want him. So, I Agree - TRADE DOWN....
If Fisher takes Leinart just because he's a USC alum, he should be fired instantly. And I know the Chow/Leinart thing is a little scary if they take Young, but Chow is just the OC. The draft guys, the GM, and the head coach all have far more input than he does.
Here's what you have to ask yourself about Leinart. Total hypothetical, but here goes... Let's say the situation was reversed: Leinart played the last 4 years at Vanderbilt and Cutler played with all that talent at USC. Don't you think in that scenario, Leinart would be a 3rd round pick AT BEST and Cutler would be a top five pick? If Leinart did play at Vanderbilt, all that the scouts would be saying is that he has a less than ideal arm, speed, but good height. His renowned "decision making skills" wouldn't of even been mentioned because he would have had no time to throw the ball (like Cutler, who throws off his back foot because of 4 years of in his face pass rush). AGAIN: THERE'S NO WAY, EVEN IF LEINART IS THERE THAT THE JETS TAKE HIM.
Oh come on, Didn't say he would take him JUST because he's an alum - But, being that he is, and that Chow was there - they have a lot more inside info and grasp of what the kid can do... I can't see how too many HC/ OC combos can have a better grasp of what Leinart can do as a QB.... And if I'm the GM and / or HC and I know Chow is one of the best Offensive minds in the game and I'm paying him to run my offense, I'm listening to every last peep Chow has to say on the matter... Not to mention that Leinart already knows their offense where Young would take time... With Mcnair not around, their pick may have to play right away... They aren't sold on Volek.
This was from today's newsclips, the article on Cutler, which supports my above post... "Jets Coach Eric Mangini crystallized Cutler's appeal. "What makes him interesting is he's at a program that hasn't had a lot of success, and then he's able to create a level of success that they haven't seen," Mangini said. "It's always intriguing: Why was he able to do it? What qualities did he have?"" I just don't think we'd have had the same analysis of Leinart had he been in a program like Vandy. He's a lucky "victim" of circumstance...playing at the most talent-rich program in the nation: USC
No way Croyle is overrated. He took an inept offense and won games with it. He has one of the strongest arms in the draft and he is very cool under pressure.
The only way I really see the Jets taking a QB in the first... would be a trade down with our 29 and 35 to grab Cutler possibly with Baltimore at 13 if he falls(Ngata would be a possibility). There has been speculation that Baltimore is looking to trade down. I don't think it will happen just food for thought.. Info found Other than acknowledging the need to find a starting safety in this year's college pool, the Ravens provided another morsel of information at yesterday's pre-draft luncheon. They are clearly prepared to move down from the 13th spot in the first round and acquire more picks. General manager Ozzie Newsome even said the Ravens could be enticed to give up the No. 13 pick before they are on the clock. -- Baltimore Sun
