Is this a big deal, small deal, or no deal?

It’s a big deal. The combine checks all the boxes to confirm what you have seen on film.

The NFL wanted to keep them in a COVID bubble, which wouldn’t allow them to fully meet with all of their personal trainers and I think even agents etc.

Looks like the NFL already caved on that though.

Its a big deal for more than just the raw numbers spit out of the combine. Pro day numbers are inflated and in a controlled environment but do give a ballpark number.

The combine is incredibly important for the interview process as well as seeing how players do in an environment where they don’t get to setup each timed event as they please and have it timed unofficially. Not to mention the on-air 7 on 7 type drills with players they’ve never worked with.

I imagine prospects will eventually migrate towards combine alternatives though.
