I know you guys are very strict about hearsay, but I thought this was interesting and it came from a source that may or may not be in the know.

I now live in D.C., and I am an acquaintance of a close relative of one of the owners of a local professional sports team (not Dan Snyder). This person said to me that the Jets have contacted the Washington Redskins about the #4 overall pick in tonight's draft because they covet safety Eric Berry. The person had no further details about what/who exactly was discussed or how successful the discussions were.

Obviously, it's highly possible that none of this ever amounts to anything, but I thought it'd be interesting to share and figured you guys would wanna know about it.

I'll be tuned in tonight ready for anything.

I can see the Jets just making calls, but if they trade up for Berry, expect the place to go apeshit.

They need depth this year, let's not sell the farm for one potential beast playmaker.

"Hey Daniel, we'll give you are 1st and 2nd rounders, plus Leon and Thomas for #4."

    "Uhm, no."

    "Ok, good luck tomorrow night."

    "Later."

I can see Tannenbaum offering big ticket older guys.

"Dan, we'll give you our 1st and 2nd this year, next year's 4th, Alen Faneca, Brian Thomas, and Leon Washington for the #4 pick."

    What he said.

I know everyone said that last year with Sanchez (except me ) and so far it's turned out okay, but Berry is not a QB. You Ditka for QBs, and no other position.

Would be crazy we'd have to give up next years number 1 plus prob a player? Big Cat maybe? Would be nutty if this would happen.

They've been stacking the DL in the past couple of weeks. I can't think of who they'd be interested in other than BT, and that wouldn't get us far. They have 8 million RBs on the roster now, a loaded DL...I guess Faneca would be a possibility, but meh...

We'd have to throw in a ton of picks.

I like Berry, but I hope we don't do this. If anybody slips into the late teens/early 20's, then I wouldn't be surprised if we trade up.

Basically what NDmick said. Let's Draft for depth. Next year, there's a strong possibility that these 1-year tenders/contracts we picked up are gone.

I'm for drafting depth but if their going to trade up for anyone in this draft I'd vote for Berry. Won't be upset either way.

Id rather trade up to get Earl Thomas for less amount of players/picks. Him and Berry are very similar.

Possible but unlikely. I can see why a team like the Redskins would talk to the Jets since they have no picks and Shanahan is desperate for some picks. Also note that the Skins are going to be a zone-blocking team like us last year, so our linemen are probably fairly valuable to them. Maybe something like this?

1st, 2nd, Faneca, Ellis, Gholston, Washington for #4.

Honestly, for a team like the skins, this isn't far-fetched.

    This.

Eric Berry is one of the best players that I've ever seen. I've had the pleasure of watching him play in person - dude's just a nasty player.

Is there a way to go from 29 to 4 within reason?

Again...the Redskins have been packing their line to the point that they're likely overloaded...why would they want Ellis?

Is a free safety really worth any of that, though?

Let's say we give them our 1st AND 2nd round picks. That's about 950 points of value. The Redskins' pick is 1800. Since future picks are generally valued a round lower than this year, our 1st and 2nd next year would get us an additional 650 points. So, we're 300 away. So, that's STILL a player valued at about a low 2nd rounder. Bryan Thomas isn't valued that high, but Bryan Thomas and Faneca likely would be if packaged together.

So, we're looking at our 1 and 2 this year, 1 and 2 next year, Bryan Thomas, and Alan Faneca.

That's equal value. Granted, the Redskins may accept a BIT less, but I don't really see them just dropping massive amounts of value and deciding to let us jump nearly an entire round for our first 2 picks and a couple of players. At best, we could hope to give up 1, 2, 1 OR 2, and the two guys. All this for a safety? Even one as good as Eric Berry?

I'd give up a 1, 2, and next year's 1 in a heartbeat for Berry. But that probably won't nearly be enough.
