Jags aren't winning against Bears or Colts. That ship has sailed. We won't win both remaining games either. So we will pick #2 more than 99% chance. Where do we go from here? What would you do if you were Douglas?
Trade #2 to #3 or #4 for couple of 1sts and draft Sewell All I got...Fields better than Darnold? I don't know, he could raise his stock here during playoffs
I don't think it's gonna happen. cincy picks 3 they will draft sewell. nobody si going jump them for him, they will jump for a QB most likely. sewell is not a good pick for us
Stay at 2, draft Sewell. Go get best guard in free agency. Do people realize Sewell is rated as high as Ogden or Pace were? We have a chance to have the two best tackles in the league on our team. Go get best running back available with our Seattle pick. This is a start.
I honestly don't know. Winning yesterday totally blew everything up. With the #1 pick the plan for the offseason was crystal clear - take TL and use the other capital to build around him. The TL selection would've been extremely enticing for the top coaching candidates. I don't know what we do now. We're now in a familiar situation where we're drafting high enough to have some options but not high enough to have any clear best option. Do we reach for a QB there's no consensus on at #2? I guess we kind of have to. We can't send Sam out there for another year. Not after yet another season of bottom 5 production. I guess we could trade out of #2 but I don't think we're going to get that big a haul for it. The haul went out the window with the #1 pick. We basically now have to pray that Wilson or Fields ends up being the guy. We're also in a situation now where we very likely do not get as good a coach as we would've if we had the #1 pick. And if Wilson or Fields isn't the guy we'll be in this exact same place 4 years from now. Except at that point I highly doubt there'll be another generational QB available in the same year we decide to start 0-12. I'm just totally at a loss for words. I can't believe we fucked it all up at the end of the season yet again. I don't understand how you can be 3 losses away from a generational QB and not do everything in your power to make sure you lose the last 3 games. We should've sat our starters tbh. The NFL wasn't going to steal the #1 pick from us just because we intentionally tanked the last 3 games of the season.
and draft him to play RT 2nd overall? I'd rather grab walker little in the 3rd round. see if we can get value with a trade down. stick with sam and maybe draft a QB in the mid rounds. Don't forget we have james morgan as well. never know if he will pan out
I would hope that he could make the transition without much of a drop-off. I admit, i dont know enough about the position to know if its a big move or not. If it can be done, we are looking at a dominant online with one more big free agency acquisition at guard. Now I'd prefer to do this than roll the dice on Wilson or Fields where people have there doubts. I dont know. Like it was said above, yesterdays win changed everything. But now we are staring at a tackle being compared to Orlando Pace
Without a QB nothing else really matters. Go look at the list of teams that have played in the Super Bowl over the last decade. How many of them didn't have a top 5-10 QB in the NFL? Very few. We can build the line all day long and it's really irrelevant if we don't get a better QB. I just cannot believe we had one sitting in our lap and messed it up yet again. I appreciate everyone trying to be optimistic but the reality is that yesterday was an extremely dark outcome for this franchise. We botched our best chance ever to escape the perpetual rebuild we've been in for a decade.
I think we hire a good HC and let Douglas and that HC make the decisions on how to build the team. I think we make no pronouncements about expectations for next year beyond supporting that build. It's probably better if Douglas hires the HC because if the HC fails there is likely to be a house-cleaning after 2023 and it would be good if it was a clean sweep. I think a good belly laugh is in order if somebody asks us whether or not there is a playoff mandate. Something like "Good god man we just lost 15 (14) games! Why would you ask us about the playoffs now?" Make it a Churchillian laugh at ourselves not an off-putting jibe at the scribe who undoubtedly is just doing their job - if not with the greatest sense of realism involved. Under-promise for 2021 in the hope we can over-deliver in 2022. It's only a 50/50 proposition to work but the other 50/50s lead us off the cliff edge in 2022 again and who really wants to make *that* leap again?
Were not going to get an extra 1 for Fields unless he has a huge game against Clemson. Even then probably not firsts. Performing on the big stage (and beating Lawrence) would improve his trade value a lot though. So we have to hope Fields plays the game of his life against Clemson on New Years day. With the second pick we'd have some options. Cinn. wants the best tackle and so do we. We could: 1. Draft him ourselves. He is the best tackle in the draft but we'd be walking away from Fields trade value (a few 2s &3s depending on his Sugar Bowl performance). But securing the top tackle is never a bad thing. 2. Try to trade with Cinn. I'm not sure we'd be able to get a lot for the swap but if we are going to trade down anyways it would get us some value and still have the trade down option with Fields. IMO this would be a hard trade to pull off (we'd maybe get a 2 or 3). There are other quality tackles and Cinn might take the Fields trade themselves and basically sucker us out of it for a 3rd. But we'd still have the top tackle... 3. Shop Fields to the highest bidder/best deal. Get some extra picks and start building. Most people know I have been in trade TL camp all along, and have run the numbers on a lot of deal making. I wanted to trade Lawrence and Fields. TBH even without TL we have some options to make this a pretty amazing draft. When the draft order gets set I'll post what I've worked out and think it will give a lot of hope to people.
I dont know enough about the tackle losition to know if its a big transition to switch sides. I do like your idea as well. There are a few different angles JD can go with now.
Yeah I was just wondering. I think probably Becton would be the one to be moved to RT. An O-line with those 2 cornerstones is pretty tempting
I wanted Lawrence too, but there is still the possibility that he does not translate his great play into the NFL. It's happened so many times. Maybe in a few years we'll be looking back on this with a different perspective. I'm not saying I hope the young man fails, but a LOT of QB prospects do. And it's not quite over yet. Still two games and we're not mathematically eliminated yet!
I’m in kind of the same boat. I absolutely do NOT want Fields at 2...he will be Darnold 2.0....his success has come on the back of a dominant OL and run game, allowing him to throw with no pressure to wide open receivers. The two games he played better defenses he looked bad. He is not ready to step in here and succeed. this was so absolutely the worst thing we could have done....cutting off our nose to spite our face. Typical Jets. A totally meaningless win that kills our chance to draft a truly elite prospect. Of course, all prospects are just that.... no guarantees, but shoot, that kid is a low risk pick if there ever was one. so now we’re left Hopi g that by some miracle, the Jags can win one, and that we don’t blow it by winning a second one...I see no way of beating the Browns who are fighting for the playoffs, but the Pats are definitely beatable. if we end up at 2, which is the most likely outcome, it’s a tough spot, because I don’t think Fields will be a good NFL QB regardless, but least of all for us. I’m not sure what a trade package would look like for Fields. Cindy probably will take the tackle at 3, so where do we go? tough spot. typical Jets.
I'd take Sewell and go offense with the Seattle pick and #33. If Darnold doesn't improve, we'll at least have a great foundation for the next QB, which is would he better than what Darnold walked into.
Sewell at left tackle, Becton at right tackle. Take Wyatt Davis G with Seattle's pick and put him next to Becton because they are both maulers. could make any running back a pro bowler if they run behind that. Defenses have reacted to the changing league with smaller and quicker defenders. A beast line like that would wipe out NFL defenses on the regular
i'm sure sewell would be great at RT but ti seems like a waste to draft one 2nd overall becuase we have a pro bowl talent at LT we drafted in the 1st last year and fant has been solid and this draft has good depth to get a RT in the mid rounds that can start. we also have edoga still
