Who cares? It is the offseason. Having said that, I don't know anything about Freeman other than he is a big QB with a big arm and is rising up draft boards. Don't know anything past that.
I think he will be perfect for us. His numbers are similar to Stafford's and he played with less talent. Played in a Pro-Offense for 3 years. Started in his 5th game of his True Freshman year and has had the job since.
I think, when you draft a QB high, you go for the best possible. I mean, the Jets may need him for a few years. From what I have heard, that's Sanchez. I think that the Jets will move up to get him.
I'm not a huge fan of moving up again this year, since we have traded away picks the past two seasons. Sanchez is the ideal choice, but he will likely not last until 17. Freeman seems like a good prospect, but he is very raw and would need a couple of years on the bench. Nate Davis and Graham Harrell are two intriguing later round picks. Harrell is clearly a system guy and would take a few years to get him out of the spread offense bad habits and to improve his footwork, but he has lots of accuracy and a good arm. Davis has a strange delivery and holds the ball without the laces, which is strange. But he played in a pro style offense at Ball State, put up great numbers and has a good arm, great accuracy and can put touch on his passes when needed. I'm a huge fan of Davis.
Those guys had terrible Senior Games. They don't look NFL capable. There only 4 guys worth mentioning in this draft. Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman, and Bomar. All College QBs coming into the NFL are RAW.
I work in the same building as the Debartolo Sports University and according to Steve Clarkson who mentored Big Ben among others - Josh Freeman is the best QB in the draft. And we're in the same city as Mark Sanchez!
Davis didn't play in the Senior bowl, he came out at as a junior. Bomar didn't exactly play well, plus he only won four games as Sam Houston last year. There were only two games in which Bomar DID NOT throw an interception last season. The only good team that SHS played was Kansas, and that game Bomar threw for only 1 td and 3 interceptions. Also, his lack of sound judgment worries me.
It's not the amount of games you win, but your talent, and he has it. He has issues yes, but he is also talented. That is why he is considered the 4th best QB in this draft. It is all about talent
I'm working on some player evaluations for the draft, here's my writeup on Freeman. Josh Freeman has been compared to Joe Flacco: both are big strong QBs from not-so-great programs. Now, Kansas State is still a Division 1-A school, but Freeman has played in all of one bowl game; in 2006 as a freshman. Freeman is a physical specimen at about 6’6, 250, and has been productive enough given his surrounding cast to merit a 2nd or 3rd round draft selection. Despite his great arm, questions surrounding his accuracy swirl around Freeman, and his draft stock might slip as a result. I think he’s got big bust potential.
I'm not denying that he is talented, I just do not see how he is this great pro qb prospect. His junior year fairly unimpressive with 10 tds and 6 picks and then his senior year he threw at least one pick in every game but two. We all got ticked at Favre for doing that and we're going to draft some guy who does not have nearly the ability of Favre, but has shown bad judgment in the past and turns the ball over constantly? Look at Nate Davis, on the other hand, who took a team with about the same amount of talent and had them undefeated until the last regular season game, has put up good numbers all three years and is not a head case. You can make the same argument for Freeman.
There are 6 teams that need a QB Detroit San Fran Jets Bears Buccaneers Vikings All QBs (except Phillip Rivers) coming into the draft are considered questionable with their accuracy. Matt Ryan did not start until his Senior Year in College. How many would say no on picking him just based on that?
Actually, Ryan made his first start during his freshman season, started 5 games his sophomore season, 11 his junior and all games his senior season. I wouldn't agree with that assessment that all qb's have questionable accuracy coming into the NFL.
Your'e right, but I do think that the majority of the QBs coming into the draft are considered questionable when it comes to accuracy.
Harrell played two quarters of the best QBing you've seen in a while at the college level. Granted, it was against a shit team, but still. It was one hell of a comeback.
