I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY MORE. All morning on Sirius Schein and Riggo go on about it. ESPN last night, blah, blah, Mike Mamula, blah. NFL.COM VG is A Cautionary Tale.
FOR CHRISSAKES. REALLY!!!! REALLY??? we need to be the ACTUAL benchmark of futility yet again... associated with a colossal mistake yet again in the eyes of the NFL public.
I'm so annoyed. This is a bad thread. I have nothing of merit that I'm contributing here. I'm just so damn sick of it. I should of seen this coming since its Combine Season. But I didnt. And I'm flooded with "here's another Jet mistake" jabs. Jab. Jab-jab. CUT ME MICK. I'M GETTIN KILLED OUT HERE.
Vernon... if you're out there... please. Do something good. Have your PR guy leak a report that you're studying game film 14 hours a day. Anything.

I get you. I can't stand when the Jets look stupid, especially when it comes to draft picks. All we can do is hope they either get something special out of him or get rid of him in the most cap-friendly way possible to replace him. My biggest problem with this situation is the giant rookie contracts. However, once they do decide to make a rookie salary cap, players won't be coming out of school early to play for the pros as much.

Except at the QB position top 10 players are expected to be ready to go after their first offseason and training camp. When they can't answer the bell by the middle of the first season the odds are pretty good they are a bust.

Seriously, what players do you take that high in the draft other than QB's that you expect to have a lot of off the field learning to do before they can play? None.

Gholston is his own worst enemy, saying that he made "tremendous progress" in 2008? WTMF?

Yea, agreed. Let's give the guy 3 years, and then write him off.

The only thing that will make it all stop is winning big. And that's an acceptable solution for me.

Yes. Thanks for the constructive response to my nonconstructive thread. Thats really just a rant. It's a catch 22 in that the best place to be drafting from is most often the middle of the first round IMHO. Year after year. And when you have years of Futility, you have a lot of High Draft Picks... lot of Potential for Bust... and a cancerous Cap/Team Structure situation. (see DET)
It's just like enough alredy, the guy's already a cliche... it's already annoying the hell out of me to hear this over and over again. I actually had a reasonable office argument two weeks ago with an Office Browns fan (of course kicked off by Mangini poking) where I insisted I'm not ready to give up on the guy yet. VG. It's just so unfortunate that we have the decade's Mamula right now.

I guess a better comparison should be why draft a RB that high and convert him to WR and expect him to shine immediately. Maybe if they let the kid concentrate on what got him drafted that high to begin with we wouldn't be having this conversation...

Hopefully, Ryan can figure him out. But if he could at least be serviceable, i would be kinda happy with that. I can't be one of the people that label him as a bust after his rookie season. I feel that Ryan and Pettine will be able to inspire him. If we can watch an inspired Gholston, I'd watch for him if i were an opposing QB.

All this talk about VG overlooks the issue of him being played out of position. Kris Jenkins can't play LBer, doesn't make him a failure. Turns out VG can't play LB either. He can't play it for two reasons, slow decision making and lacks the mobility needed by the position. And don't give me this crap about how he only started playing football in his junior year of high school, thats when Lawrence Taylor started playing football. And please, no more comparisons to Lamarr Woodlely. LW was a high school all american at LB and then Michigan had him line up at DE for most, but not all of his career. When LW played LB at Mich he had no troubles with the position, just like he had no troubles with it in high school. Even Calvin Pace played LB in high school so he's not a good comparison either.

The truth is the Jets drafted a 4-3 DE, get over it. It turns out that the OSU coaching staff isn't that stupid after all, they knew how best to use VG and eventually he's going to be used the same way in the NFL so quit your whining and quit all this talk about LT or RR or Jesus converting VG into a LB, not gonna happen.
