I am a 20 year old University of Miami student. My roommate's brother is on the football team and works out with Vilma. He arranged for us to meet after he worked out this morning.

He is just a really nice guy. I wish I could tell you guys that we talked specifics, but to be honest he really was tired from his workout and I was tired from not sleeping at all the night before.

Some stuff he did say though was that Chad was actually really funny off the camera with teammates. He said he really likes Mangini and isn't as big a hardass as everyone portrays. It seems like Mangini is the type of coach that as long as you are giving it your all each and every practice he will back off the players.

In terms of the defense, he thinks that the Jets D will be a lot better than last year. He was saying how they really came on in the 2nd half of last year and they will only get better. He did admit that he would like to get that big ass d-tackle taking up blockers and that he will be freed up more when we get the right player. It definetely seemed like the team has a much better idea of how the 3-4 works now.

He also said that the New England loss still stings a little bit. That's about it for football. We also talked a bit about my semester and major and his, as well as what he'd like to do after football. He signed my football and jersey and I got a picture with him. He has a dark red Cadillac Escalade (sp?) and he drove off waving to me in that thing.

Just thought I'd share that with you guys. If for no other reason just to tell a story in the always slow offseason. I didn't want to ask him it, but for those of you that say he doesn't belong on the team I say you are wrong. I really think that once the team continues to gel and Mangini gets his players on the team that Vilma will be more than fine.

Great story. I have to agree with nyjunc...Having Vilma, Chad...Even Rhodes and no maybe Thomas as leaders of this team, its a great feeling. I was just talking to my girlfriend last night who is a giants fan and we were talking about this and she said...the biggest thing the jets have that the giants dont have is leadership. and the jets have great leaders.

I know I look just so silly and part of the reason is because I haven't slept in over 30 hours and the other reason is because nobody was around to take the picture for us so I had to hold my hand out.

Good story . All these Vilma haters gotta back off. He's a great leader for our defense along side Rhodes. He's a great player who works hard and gives it 100 percent every practice and game. With that said we are not trading him so all you haters can get these thoughts out of your head.

I love vilma hes the man. I just heard some disturbing or good rumors depending how you look at it. I heard the Jets are trying to Vilma and some other picks to the Lions for their number 2 pick so that we can draft Calvin Johnson at number 2. Also i heard the jets are making a push for cato june from the colts. has anybody else heard of anything like this. I live in san diego so its hard to get any info about the jets other then the internet.

No way they are trading up to the 2 spot, they have so many holes on both lines that trading up to take a wr would be a huge mistake. Not gonna happen.

Cato June doesn't fit into this team at all. He's way to small to play 3-4 LB and who knows if he can make the transition to safety and we already have good safties.

Oh wow, I never even thought of him as a safety, but come to thing of it, it is a pretty good idea. He is WAY too small for a 3-4 LB, barely big enough for a 4-3 LB, but has all the qualities of a safety. He is a HARD hitter, very good in coverage for a LB (a bit more training in that area, and he could be pretty good as a safety also), very fast, and the perfect size. At 6-0, 225, he definitely has the size and quickness to be a safety, even if he loses 10 pounds. Wow! Not a bad idea now thta I look at it.

    Too small for a 4-3??........ He's 6-2 230...

And he could be a fine 3-4 ILB as long as Robertson adds about 10-15 pounds and more strength. Look how great Donnie Edwards was in the 3-4, and he was even smaller than Vilma.
