Vladimir Ducasse will not play any tackle this season.
Ducasse has already lost out to Matt Slauson for the left guard job, but he won't kick back outside. The 2010 second-round pick is going to back up both guard spots while Austin Howard operates as the swing tackle.

Matt Slauson - G - Jets Matt Slauson has won the starting left guard job.
Slauson, the incumbent, has held off a weak challenge from Vladimir Ducasse. Along with right tackle Wayne Hunter, Slauson represents another weak spot on the Jets offensive line. It's part of the team's overall offensive dysfunction.

Ducasse has busted. As our only high draft investment in O-Line since 2006, this misfire is a pretty big reason the offense sometimes can't stay out of the defense's way in winning games.

Me thinks our 2012 RT is not on the roster....yet.

the flirtation with Otah proves that the jets obviously feel like we do.

agree - we may need to take a page out of the steelers book and rebuild 2/5ths of the line in 1 draft.....

we basically did that in 06, 6 years ago.

So we have no starting RT, no backup Center, no real backup LT or RT and a bust for a backup RG and LG.

    Great.

lol I actually think the Jets will go 10-6 and win a playoff game. I also think our O-line is gonna be pretty good in the run game (especially with Hill helping out).

I'm just extremely worried about our depth in case someone gets hurt. In the past 5 years, the Jets have been EXTREMELY lucky when it comes to O-line health. Idk how long that will last.

I think this officially makes Ducasse a bust.

Time to completely rebuild the OL this years draft, hopefully with Sparano having no input at all. Being that almost every single draft pick he made with Miami has been a bust

Hopefully Vlad has improved enough to be a viable backup.

Agreed. That's what we need to hope for at this point.

I'm still very concerned about this O-lines ability to impose their will and enforce a G&P offense. Especially if the injury bug bites.

Slauson was not a weak link in 2010 and was hurt all of 2011. Look for him to rebound.

He will be used on goalline as another Blocking TE as he was last year. Another Lineman when needed to get small yardage

No need to justify yourself to the Sunshiner. Any critique of the team and he plays the SOJF card. Notice he didn't refute your post with any valid argument.

The O-line definitely has issues that should be a concern for any Jets fan.

One thing that's odd is that Rex didn't even watch him play a preseason game before making the decision. He must have been considerably inferior to Slauson in practice.

  18. Just got back from TC yesterday. Attended both the scrimmage Saturday as well as practice Monday. I watched the O-line/D-lines very closely.More than anything else.

Ducasse will put all this bust talk behind him in the preseason. I saw enough of him between the 2 days to confirm that. He knows who to block to the point where he's pointing out blocking assignments to younger linemen pre-snap. He's really been blowing people off the line too. He played ALOT on Saturday, playing right guard with the 1's & left guard with the 2's...I came away very impressed. He's come a long LONG way. But i'll let his play do the talking.

The reason Vlad isn't starting is b/c Slauson has looked REALLY REALLY good. He is visibly MUCH stronger at the point of attack & really explodes out of his stance. He looked like a plus player to me..and I've mostly thought of him as adequate at best.

Slauson is more than serviceable as a starter. Unbelievable...

This is simply whistling past the graveyard.

It's highly unlikely that any team is going to release or trade any NFL-caliber OT at this point. There were virtually none in FA, and with the injury to Peters and the retirement of Light, the market got even tighter. IMO, teams that have some aren't going to let their serviceable ones go. Anybody of any quality who's still out there to sign is ancient and/or injured.

The best the Jets can hope for is that some young guy who might be only marginally worse than Hunter and so has some upside gets cut late.
