I'm not too sure I'd want to share this planet with another species that was as smart or smarter that we are, assuming some type of treaty could be reached based on MAD or shared interest. The potential for human advancement it tremendous, is it worth the risk? I don't know. I do think it will happen eventually though.
I see more of a symbiotic effect in the future where bionic implants augment human intelligence and abilities.
