most of the over 40 crowd will relate to this best but there is a neat little pattern emerging and is copying the ride back in 82-83..... the jets victory last saturday was not their first at cincinnati in the post season. they beat the crap out of the bengals in the 82-83 playoffs and does anyone know who we played the next week..... thats right - they went out west to play the big bad raiders in LA. hmmm thats funny we have to go back out west again and play the big bad chargers. we beat the raiders that day 17-14 - that was when alzado ripped off chris wards helmet and gastineau did some crazy ass sack dance after tripping plunkett. lance mehl had 2 ints in the 4th quarter that protected the win. folks - this may mean squat but things happen in cycles on this planet and wouldn't it be something of the jets win this sunday..... of course the patern would then be broken cause we sure as hell wont have a repeat of that fukin mudbowl, would we. enjoy jil
I remember that game and those years very vividly Jil. We outhit the Raiders in that game as our DB's played like Tatum and Atkinson minus the dirty stuff. Things do have a funny habit of coming full circle sometimes..
I have a photograph of the TV I took when Gastineau was doing that dance! I had such crush on him! Ouch, the memories......
Other similarities: Both times we made the playoffs despite losing twice to Miami In those playoffs we were without Joe Klecko, this time we're without Kris Jenkins.
yes, i remember that year very well, that was the year I truly became a Jet fan for good (at that point i was a Jet fan and Cowboy fan).........after the 2 underdog playoff wins, my heart got ripped out during the mud bowl (effn AJ Duhe).........but it was all Jets for me after that..........I too noticed the similar circumstances.
I was thinking about that year also with Freeman McNeil running crazy at Cincy, then the west coast game. The Jets were underdogs in both games then also. I've had a theory for a few years now that about every 15 years the Jets make it to a AFL or AFC Champioship game (68, 82, 98). Hopefully that theory gets blown away with a Jets victory this week.
All of this is too uncanny! This was when I was Young into my JETS... I'll never forget singing "JETS, to Pasedena!" a self written tune.. I'll add another... vs Cincy McNeil had the Biggest Rush ever by a JET in a playoff game... vs Cincy Greene Now has the Longest rush by a JET in a Playoff game....
I'll add another.....whispers during the 82-83 playoff run was that Joe Walton, then the Jets OC, was getting ready to fly the coop to become the head coach for one of several teams. This year it's OC Brian Schottenheimer getting the attention from other teams.......
Was that when Wesley Walker scored the long touch down to seal the game. I was there and will never forget it
