Garrett McIntyre looked like the only linebacker that played with some passion and athleticism. Also, was the only one who could actually bring down Ben and it was awesome when he laid out that running back. I can't see why this guy isn't starting over Thomas especially when he is actually getting to the quarterback (2 sacks) and actually has some speed. Bilal Powell needs more carries especially after Greene got hit in the head and was stumbling over his own feet getting to the side line. Powell actually showed he has some NFL caliber moves against a good defense and just looks like a more competent running back. I'm not saying Powell should have the majority of the carries, but he needs to be much more involved with our offense.
Nice performance by McIntyre. Watching him step up is giving me hope that when the Jets unload their LB core they won't be so screwed. Would be very exciting if McIntyre and DeMario are both capable of starting on next year's D. As for this season, I'm not seeing the switch to starter happening. Just thinking from a psychological view point that if you demote vet to the bench you might lose him mentally and he might not even be able to provide you a good backup.
Also the run defense looked solid: 66 yards on 28 carries, 2.4 Y/A. Granted, no Mendenhall but there were quite a few impressive stuffs.
its always a silver lining when you discover someone who is awarded an oppertunity due to injury and make the best of it...not saying this will be how he will play every time he is on the field, but it was nice to see special teams guy actually make some plays on defense.
Agreed on both. I thought Bilal Powellforfive played better than Shonn Greeneforthree although neither pulled up any trees.
Garrett McIntyre, after his missed assignment on the FB on Pittsburgh's opening drive, played a great game. His first sack wasn't really a sack, but the second was the best pass rush we've seen in two games. That being said, this is Pittsburgh we're talking about, yet then again, WHERE IS AARON MAYBIN? And yes, as someone else said, Powell needs the ball more. He obviously worked his tail off this offsesaon. He never goes down on first contact.
The defence played well...they couldn’t tackle Ben but which team can (Maybe the 49ers).It’s still early in the season but I can bet on one thing Big Ben will keep the Steelers in every game...look @ the TOP against us & the Broncos...they would have won the Bronco game too if Manning didn’t pull his usual regular season magic... Best thing is the Pats lost going into Baltimore next week...looking across the league it looks like the 49ers are the only team looking bonafide...it’s too early to panic or say ‘we are looking good’...Miami will not get a west coast team having played a Thursday night game next week...we win & keep looking forward....
Powell had too few runs but he had one where he bounced to the left side after getting through the hole which blew me away. It was a nice but not great run. However, it was still amazing to watch a Jets RB show some type of move that can make a defender miss. With Greene's injury in the game he should have been pulled. Steeler's game would've been good chance for Bilal to get field time.
I'd also like to see McKnight get the ball more. He had the one carry after the Tebow run where it should have been a loss of 3, but it ended up a gain of 12.
He looked solid, but BThomas is better against the run and holding the edge...would like to see McIntyre on 2nd and 3rd and long. He was run over a few times yesterday when they were intentionally running to his side.
100% agree -- McKnight has the speed to be a difference maker and be the backfield passing option. Powell was solid when he was in. Looks liked a slightly smaller, fast, but still physical back compared to Greene. Mac looks good. The dline in general was getting great push back all game. Just wore down a bit and tackling was an issue, but still owned the Steelers ground game. Too much zone defense for 8 yard pass after 8 yard pass.
wilkerson got in the backfield several times, as well. If only we could have actually tackled Big Ben.
The Jets really sucked yesterday period. Powells lack of playing time is proably due to his lack of blocking skills. I have seen high school teams tackle better than the Jets did yesterday. Thank God for Johnnie Walker.
