Would he replace Kerley? I think just letting Sanchez have the same WR's for more than a 10 game span in a row is probably the way to go. 2009 Start of season: Cotchery, Stuckey and Smith/Clowney 2009 Game 6: Edwards and Cotchery and Smith/Clowney 2010 Start of season: Edwards, Cotchery and Smith 2010 Game 5: Holmes, Edwards and Cotchery 2011 Start of season: Holmes, Burress and Mason 2011 Game 6: Holmes, Burress and Kerley Somewhere in here the Jets need to get some real chemistry between Sanchez and his receivers and juggling the wideouts like they're hot potatoes doesn't help.
they need to draft a WR early next year (along with a LBer) and make Holmes/WR2/Keller the main priorities long term.
No. The guy is about to turn 31, and hasn't done shit since the Vikes paid him. We need to have more youth and continuity in our WR corps.
No. Berrian's a few seasons away from relevance, and as Br4dw4y pointed out, our receiving corps needs to stay intact for the sake of our QB.
Or maybe Kerley is good enough to be a #2. Or maybe Braylon Edwards comes free and wants to go back to the only place he's been happy in the NFL for more than a few games at a time. I hear what you're saying about getting a long-term asset for Sanchez at WR. I just don't know if I can live through the getting to know each other period with another young WR who will be tripping over his own feet and turning the wrong way for a season minimum before he settles down.

Serisously, another Deep Threat thread. ..... its not the guys we have, its the fact that Shotty is not calling them. Holmes is a burner and can get open Deep. Plax, at least in the past, has been very good at a jump ball situation. The problem early in the season is we could not block a rush long enough to throw one. We have no need to pick up someone else's garbage ATM. Berrian is far beyond done.
There's another 30+ year old former deep threat WR who has a new team this year. Lee Evans, and he's sucked(2 rec,45 yards).....I see this as the same situation.
Definitely a no-go, he isn't good and we have no need for him right now. we could probably use some depth at receiver, but I would absolutely wait to make any changes at all until the season is over. We definitely need to know how good both Kerley and Plax are at the end of the season, because (although I think the Jets intend to keep him as a slot receiver) Kerley may end up being good enough to become a number 2 receiver. Also, if Plax continues to be functional as such in the redzone, we may keep him another year or two. He's not going to get any shorter, and will probably benefit from an offseason not in jail. Depending on how good Kerley (and Plax) looks, we will draft a WR early or later. If Plax is good but we really believe Kerley is best as a slot guy, we draft early. If it looks like Kerely is a future number 2 guy, we draft late. If Kerely doesn't look like he's our guy, and Plax returns to being sucky, we either trade up to get one really early or make a solid free agency pick up.
Kerley has to stay a slot guy with Holmes on the outside. The offense needs one wr with height to compliment Holmes on the outside.
so your long term solution is to hope Kerley pans out to be a good number 2? and the contingency plan would be what? Play Plax till hes 40? Or rely on the guy who burnt his bridges to come back? (Edwards) If Sanchez is worth a shit, one new, young long term #2 to compliment our 10mil/yr WR isnt going to throw off his development. I'll put it this way, Kerley needs to simply become a deadly slot reciever. If Kerley is as good as most of us think he will be having him as your 4th option behind Holmes/WR2/Keller would make this passing attack way better. Kerley is quick, not fast. and his size would make for us to have one of the smallest WR duos in the nfl if your relying on him to become a #2. which usually means itll be hard to make plays downfield. when any DB who can cover them is shielding them to the sidelines. We need a LB'er the most whether it be a legit 3 down pass rusher on the outside or Scott's future replacement in the middle. after that WR and OL are our biggest needs. alot of people will say Safety but if we get a pass rush they wont be asked to cover that long down field. aside from Leonhard's height, the only way you upgrade over him is to get a pro bowl caliber guy. Smith, we know his limitations but he fits this scheme so well you better find a ballhawk who can hit if you plan on replacing him.
