What do you need a team to do to get respect ! I keep hearing all these so called football gurus cryin about how the jets should not have spent all the money they have on this years free agent crop ! Gimme a break , we needed a defensive tackle to plug up the center on defense. We get Kris Jenkins a former probowler who can definately play the position , some are worried about his weight but from what i hear he was still one of the best players on the panthers d-line last year . Alan Faneca , another former prowbowler who will definately shore up the left side of our o-line , not to mention how happy D'Brickashaw and Mangold have to be , I expect improvement in both of these guys. Right Tackle is going to be manned by yet another former probowl player in Damien Woody , this is not his natural position but he can definately play better than what we had. These 2 players make a huge difference not only will Thomas Jones get his yards , but I think if Chad Pennington is the Starter he will once again be one of the best play action passers in football . We sent the saints Vilma and got a fourth round draft pick for a guy who does not fit our system , which can possibly become a 3rd or 2nd rounder next year . Then we get Calvin Pace , a guy who definately makes our defence bigger and has alot of upside . I read quotes about how the jets have to develop youth , In the last 2 drafts we added Mangold , Ferguson , Washington , Smith plus our two home runs last year in Harris and Revis . We still have our first and second this year that will add more to our arsenal . The way I see it we have a very talented team with a favourible schedule this year , I honestly think we will win 10 games and give teams fits in the playoffs . People should not be so quick to call this front office foolish . Beware the jets !!!
When this franchise is 72 games under .500, it's easy to make a mockery of them. A team that hasn't seen a Super Bowl in 39 years is easy to make fun of. A team coming off a 4-12 season, and you complain about no respect? Give me a break. What have they done to deserve it? This argument has been way too played out, it's getting ridiculous now.
thank you I was going to respond the I'm sick of seeing threads with fans complaining that we don't get any respect form the media
My best advice to you is to stop reading the papers and listening/watching sports media. The isolationist strategy is a sound one.
::laughing:: This is actually a pretty good post but Jesus my man learn to love the paragraph! I think we have done a very good job in signing players this off season. While some will say that some of the signings were with risk, to that I say no duh! There aren't many signings in general that don't come without risk and all you can do is make your best judgment. I trust Tangini and I really think they have learned from the last two years and are building towards something special. I think we will have a very good draft this upcoming April and I'm certainly excited about the future as well. Cheers to a bright future, despite what the critics say. After all, it's their job to be pessimistic.
Does it really matter? Writers don't play the games. I am confident enough in my own thought and opinions that I do not need media people telling me their thoughts on my team. I do not even give the Jets respect, when/if they do something meaningful, the results would speak for themselves. So far every acquisition they have made has lead to ZERO wins thus far.
Of course we don't get respect when we are winning either, that's just the way it is. They have never gotten over SB 3.
another thing that is pissing me off is the chad shit...i love chad, hes my boy lol but he cant start for us....if he does, get used to this dink and dunk offense everyone complained about during the season....kellen has talent around him now so maybe he could get a fair shot....chad penningtons fade ball is a 10 yard lob.....he threw three picks for touchdowns last year and blew three games for us....why cant people get used to the fact that he wont start....if he does, maybe its to groom kellen some more but im confident in KC
What team doesn't get their free agent moves criticized in the era of spending all this money on free agents who haven't proven themselves?
Even one Lombardi (post 2008 or just after) would do it as far as respect. Case and point: 2007 New England very active in the FA market - writers responses - "New England will be unstoppable", "They could have a Perfect Season", "New England is surely the early favorite to win the Superbowl" 2008 Jets very very active in FA: "The Jets are trying to buy a Superbowl", "The Jets have overpaid for these players", "I disagree with a few of the Jets signings", etc. See what I mean. It makes me mad, too, but there is nothing that can be done to stop it, except win the big one.
We are the Jets, thats just the way it is. I got beat by a 7 year old Pats fan at Madden today, I nearly cried, in my bathroom of course.
If I remember correctly, the Patriots didn't get too much respect even after their first Lombardi. I don't really understand the need for respect. I mean, I like some of the moves, but they could all fail, and then people would be all pissed off because the media gave them a false indicator of 'respect' in the meaningless offseason news period. Although they would blame the team and not the media.
It's an entirely different situations. The Jets were coming off a 4-12 season, with nearly a whole team worth of holes to fill. The Patriots were coming off a 12-4 season in which they reached the AFC Championship game the previous year. They had one or two holes to fill. They filled them with significant players in Adalius Thomas and Randy Moss.
People only complained because we were losing. Chad also dinked and dunked when we were winning and going to the playoffs. Nobody complained then. It's all a matter of perspective. If you didn't notice they also complained about Clemens who was nothing short of pathetic.
Guess so. Truth is, respect is earned, not given. We clearly have not earned respect, yet, and after 4-12, rightly so.
