Tom Benson, Saints Johnson, who inherited the bulk of his fortune, hasn't wowed anyone with his business acumen. On a positive note, he does seem to want to win and is willing to spend to do so. That said, he got played by Peterson in the Herm Edwards negotiations and ultimately let his emotions (over what he perceived as Edwards's lack of loyalty) get in the way of his best business interests. Just found this kinda interesting (BTW ESPN's ultimate depth chart rated the jets 20th in pass defense)
I think Woody is a little bit high on the list. If it goes by owners who care about their team I understand Snyder being so high but when it comes to delivering for the fans and making the right moves Snyder and Al Davis should be near last.
What is this a rating of though? It really depends what they're rating the owners on. Seeing Kraft at #1 makes me think it was written by Peter King
Woody may not be the brightest bulb in the batch, but he does seem to care about winning in a way Leon Hess didn't, and runs a reasonably ethical operation more sensitive than not to the concerns of his community, the ticket-holders, and fans. There are some owners in this league that make pirates seem touchy-feely.
I am not a fan of Woody and don't think he should be anywhere near the top 20 but he is still heads and tails above many of the owners on the bottom of the list like Bidwell, Brown, Benson and Wilson.
Wow, I don't know how we got ahead of Mara and Tisch. If anybody wants any evidence of how they're better than Woody just check out the name of our Stadium and our records since the merger. I do think that around the middle of the pack is fair for Woody though. He poured a helluva lot of money and energy on the West Side Stadium and put his reputation on the line for the team in that instance and has shown multiple times that he won't tolerate failure. Unfortunately he can't move higher because he didn't get the stadium and his team fails constantly. IMO Mara/Tisch, Jeffery Lurie and the Glazers should be higher and Wayne Huizenga, Lamar Hunt and Wayne Weaver should be lower.
^Well, Mara/Tisch, are the sons. I don't know how much of a role they played in the Giants organiztion before their respective fathers passed away last season, but as owners, they are fairly new.
Of all the lists we are ranked in this is the one I feel we are ranked WAY to high. This dude is NO fotball fan, much less a JET fan. Jerry Jones is, by far, the #1 owner. Bob Kraft a close #2. Snyder and his spending have done nothing for the fans of his team other than build continuous false hopes and future years of mediocrity, at best, but at least he tries. Woody needs to be more of a JET fan and less of a tight ass. WHERE THE F**K IS OUR STADIUM????
It will just be one of those "SI doesn't know anything" kind of posts..unless SI has an article he agrees with, then it's ok
You realize that Woody probably spent millions on his attempt at the WSS. Plus I believe it was the politicians who voted against the stadium. And some of you are acting like we are going to loan out the Giants' Stadium again, and yet we are splitting the cost of the stadium, so it isn't anymore theirs than it is ours. I would love to have a stadium in NY too, but co-owning a stadium is a hell of a lot better than just loaning out a stadium.
How can jerry jones be BY FAR the #1 owner if Kraft is a close #2...then that would mean that jones isn't #1 BY FAR...doesn't make much sense does it?
