It's pretty clear the Jets drafted Ferguson to keep the new quicker defenseive ends out of their backfield. If you shut down the Freeneys your passing game will flourish; if you can't shut them down it will flounder. My guess is that once the Jets get the QB position figured out their passing attack is among the better ones in the league as long as Ferguson is holding down the left corner of the line. I've been a bit surprised that more teams have not gone to the double tight-end/lone tailback alignment on passing downs to put a more mobile blocker on the end of the line to help out on the speed rushers.
