He was a former #1 pick and he was released by the Packers. I would figure that with Mangini being a defensive guru he might be able to help him out with technique and coverage skills. Maybe a little coaching is all he needs.
I don't know if we need anymore, but i wouldn't mind signing him as he is a former first round pick. I mean, how long ago was he drafted? 2 years?
Yeah he's still young. Not to many good things being said the NFL forum here on TGG but still he could come in for cheap and he's got talent. Maybe some coaching will help him get over his bad habits. Worst case scenario, we cut him.
Pretty much the only coaches to me who could make him a solid Nickelback are Belichick and Cowher...Cowher is stacked though with Townsend,Taylor,McFadden and Colclough... Belichick on the other hand has lost Randall Gay, Ellis Hobbs has a broken hand...Belichick is a guy who could get Carroll to play to some of his potential, it'd be good for them since their secondary is a little banged up.
Not sure if he has a place. He'd only get picked up if he can play CB, DB and Special Teams. He needs to play more than one postion. And who do you cut to make room for him?
When a cornerback of his athletic talent gets cut, midseason, within two years of being a first round pick, it's likely over some kind of deviant behavior. Teams just don't go sawing off depth in the middle of the season like this. As much as I loved this guy out of college, I'd stay away. -X-
The guy is a walking penalty machine- we rip on Dwayne but its nothing compared to what Packers fans say about Carroll. I'll pass. He wore freakin boxing gloves in camp to try to shake his habit of grabbing receivers!
Well, he's most definitely not slow, but he's probably undisciplined as all hell. The guy was an SEC track star, and at his size, you have to be fast to get drafted where he did. He's a hell of an athlete and that probably allowed him to have success in football up to a certain point. At some point, you have to become a football player. -X-
HECK NO! Have you guys watched him the past few years? Wait, did you guys watch him Monday. His name is toast, no way in hell would I put this guy on our roster.
It's funny that Miller gets such a bad rap around here because he constantly gets burned and draws penalties, but Ahmad "Batman" Carroll, who has the same problems as Miller, is suddenly a must-sign player because he's still young. Talk about a double standard.
who said he was a must sign? no one in this thread ever said that. the return might be worth the risk. i still think we're at least a year away from coming together completely....so it's worth it to give a player like that a chance in hopes that he'll reach his potential. i seriously doubt he got very good coaching from the green bay packers over the past couple of years so maybe that's all he needs.
It just has to be the right head coach/staff for this move to work. Look at Denver...Shanahan took Gerard Warren and Courtyney Brown(Also Ekuban and Michael Myers, but in terms of 1st rounders) and they were rejuvinated, Brown is still injury prone though...But Warren did so well he got a nice new contract...
I only think the Jets should sign him for two reasons. First, so the Pats don't since it is a big need for them and second, because we play Green Bay in December
Bingo, that's exactly what I heard about the situation. Not that it matters though, because to me Carroll's pretty much a lost cause right now. His attitude outshines his talent. He can run all the 4.3's he wants, a 4.5 or 4.6 WR with good technique will beat him every time.
