Should we be worried about Rex Ryan?

I also think that Rex would be a good candidate for the HC position. He runs a 3-4, his players like him, they play hard for him, etc...

The one thing I'm worried about is that if he is so qualified to be a HC in this league, why did his own organization go outside and bring in Jim Harbaugh to coach the Ravens?

If Coughlin decided to retire after this season, do you think anyone else on the planet would get the job besides, Spags? I don't think so...

Why do you think Cowher would want to coach the Giants?

Interesting points. I think both are valid and even plausible. Now I'M worried.

Ravens wanted an offensive minded HC.

because they are in new york and the franchise doesn't have a history of losing and firing coaches every 3 years.

After collapsing under an offensive minded coach? Ryan was with the organization for 7 years at that point and widely regarded as a good young coordinator and they passed him over.

The reason they wanted an offensive minded coach is because they knew their defense was good, and Ryan was going to stay with them for at least a year. Harbaugh was an up and coming offensive guru. They brought him in to jump start their offense.

Their loss will be our gain.

My bigger worry with Ryan/ Spags, is that because their team is part of the postseason, the jets wont give ample time to interview then or wait for their team to be eliminated so that the right man can be given the job. Or at least that they can find out they aren't the right guys.

True but they still got another Offensive coach and they seem to be happy. There in the playoffs with a rookie coach.

    Me too.
FATCESSA says he thinks the Jets will get the "bright coordinater type" coach. Whatever the fuck that means?

it means he has no idea what he is talking about, but he needs to say something just to make himself feel like he does.

Rex would be the best fit for this team as it is currently configured. He's been around for years and is a little bit less of a wildcard then Spagnuolo or any other "new" coach. He blitzes like hell and runs a 3-4. Seems ideal.

The reason they fired Billick is because their offense sucked immensly. They replaced him with an offensive coach because their offense still sucked and their defense rocked. They also knew ryan wasnt going anywhere this season. Plus they gave him a max deal to be their DC meaning he wont go anywhere unless he has a HC offer which he really enjoys, aka not a place like detroit.

The only place you need to worry about Ryan having not been hired was Atlanta. In Miami (where he interviewed) Parcells clearly only wanted his own guy, from his tree which he deemed ready, Sparano. Baltimore as stated wanted an Offensive guy. He was never allowed to interview for washingtons job.

In Atlanta any number of things could have happened. Smith may have come out and lit up the interview. Or since atlanta was in such dire straights, and every hire they made needed to scream squeaky clean and brand new, it needed to usher in a new regime in atlanta, so they may have chosen smith for one of those reason. Meaning they may have never doubted Ryans ability to coach, but the delicate direction they needed to head in, may have caused them to go another way.
