"By using their lone franchise player tag on (Kicker) Brown, the Seahawks are prepared to possibly losing tight end Jerramy Stevens, safety Ken Hamlin and guard Chris Gray to free agency -- unless they sign them to new contracts before March 2. All were starters last season." The guard is 36 years old, and Stevens seems to have droppsy trouble, but this Safety, Ken Hamlin, looks pretty good for Seattle. 26 years old, productive tackler, NFC Defensive Player of the Month in September.
Stevens is a mental problem and defintely not a Mangini player with all the bravado he puts up As you said G Chris Gray is old and maybe if we get him ona 1-2 year deal thats fine. As for Hamlin, we have two solid Safeties why the need for him?
I agree, Koz. Rhodes is an apex player, but Coleman represents an upgrade opportunity. Think we should look at all players who can raise the level of play at every position not occupied by Rhodes or Vilma. Maybe Coleman turns out to be the best, but he will benefit from being pushed by competition. He needs to return to impact form he had his rookie year.
We need an upgrade at SS...I love Coleman, but he isn't that great in coverage and he isn't that great in the box. Just your average Saftey that plays his tail off. He is however an EXCELLENT backup.
if i ever see stevens in a jets uniform.....i'll lose all faith in this regime...the guy SUCKS BIG TIME!!.....talks trash and doesnt back it up...stay far away from that clown....just a waste of size....complete waste!!
Ken Hamlin has real good potential - This was on CBS sportline about him in an article titled: Bargain shopping: Best free agents aren't biggest names Ken Hamlin, S, Seahawks After suffering a serious head injury in a bar fight in 2005, an injury that forced him to miss the second half of the season, Hamlin responded in 2006 by starting all 16 games. He is a big hitter who plays with a lot of aggressiveness and passion. He's the player who can often be heard screaming at the opposition. Hamlin just turned 26, so he's at the target age. Hamlin had 75 tackles, three interceptions and two sacks last season. Teams will have to address the head injury from 2005 if they plan to spend on him, but he didn't show any signs of it affecting him last season.
Hamlin is horrible in coverage and not really an in the box type of safety. He's not really an upgrade over Coleman. Besides, i like Eric Smiths upside. He looked great in coverage, covered a lot of ground and is a great tackler. Im happy with all our safeties, incl. Washington.
Why do we need a safety? We have 3 solid ones and people on here clambering to move Justin Miller to SS.........
when theres pressure situations stevens sucks he dropped to many balls in the superbowl. and he was talking mad trash and then turn around and cant even back it up
Ken Hamlin is the only one i want to sign, he is a tough big hitter, something that we need more of is big hitters put him at strong safety and sit Coleman. http://media.putfile.com/Seahawks---Ken-Hamlin
sound perfect for our defense if you ask me. and both ken hamlin and Michael Lewis are way better player than coleman imo.
Derrick Strait was playing ahead of Coleman at one time early last year. It is obvious that Mangini is not high on him. If we do not bring anyone in, I am assuming Eric Smith will be the starter at SS next year.
Eric Smith was probably the player with the least "upside" in the draft last year. He is a smart, hardworking, character guy but lacked the type of speed, size and athlecism, you look for in the position. He is a low ceiling guy, that doesn't bring much potential or "upside" to the table.
Count me in as one of the people who believe we could upgrade Coleman. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy, but there if there is an opportunity to upgrade we have to do it. I don't see Coleman as a long-term solution at that position.
Are you trying to say a player with low "upside" cant get better with the traits of, smart, hardworking and good character. smith has potential, i dont know what your saying.
