I'm doing a mock draft representing the Jets. Denver proposed a trade. Swap the 22nd and 29th overall, plus 2nd rounders. Now it may sound tempting, but I really like our 2nd round pick, while Denver holds a late 2nd rounder... That's the only thing that gets to me. What should I do?
Only do it if there's a specific player you're targetting. You need to fill us in a bit more on the situation, and you're plan going into this.
Well D'Brick was chosen at the 2nd spot, so I chose Mario Williams at the 4th pick. Now on the 29th pick I am looking at Mangold, but also target a Tackle to upgrade the line. Before Hand, I was going to pick D'Brick then pick a guy like Kiwanuka at the 29th. Then upgrade the spot later on in the draft at the 3rd rounder, getting a guy like Chester who can play both guard and center. In the 2nd round I'm looking at a Runningback.
I'd probably just stay put at 29 and take Mangold, a RB that's still there (Maroney), or a tackle if they're gone. Then in the 2nd grab what you still need, probably the tackle.
Its not a bad offer. I would stay at 29 though and grab either Nick Mangold or the Best available OT... That early second rounder is priceless because it is so close to the first round in a deep draft...
If you can get someone special (Eric Winston, Vernon Davis, etc. at # 22) pull the trigger. Otherwise sit tight.
I WOULDN'T DO IT Reason being, this draft Goes somewhere in the area of 35 1st RD Grades in my view {maybe a tad more if you Grade Generously}, then the drop to 2nd RD Value begins to take form Also, I view many of the 1st RD Gardes after the elite and semi elite prospects, which runs about 15 deep, to be very close in value ... so that means there's a fine line between 22 and 29 and even 35 in my view So I do not see the wisdom of surrendering 1ST RD VALUE {35 to 61} Just to move from 29 to 22, because I see a very slim margin that separates the 1st RD Grades in that 22-29 range I'd stay at 29 and 35 ... and NOT drop from 35 to 61 Now if this was like most normal drafts, about 20-25 deep with legit 1st RD Grades, I would absolutely pull the trigger on this trade ... but this class goes unusually deep with 1st RD Grades in my view, at least 35 deep, but NOT 61 deep ... so I stay where I am and walk away with three 1st RD Graded Prospects JMO
PS. Only way I even consider swapping 2's with Denver is if this cat agrees to swap the 15th Pick in RD 1 for our 29th Pick in RD 1 ... but I'd probably only make that trade if LenDale White or Winston Justice slides to 15 ... definitely not for DeAngelo Williams or Laurence Maroney, but I love White {BIG/STRONG/QUICK Possible franchise RB in my view} and Justice is a semi elite OT Prospect Having said that, if one of those cats slide to 15 {i.e. semi elite prospects at positions of need}, I might make that counter offer and sell it as such ... that he is Gaining 26 Spots in RD 2 and dealing into that 1st RD Grade area, from a NON 1st RD Grade area, while I am Gaining only 14 Spots in RD 1 and all of the ELITE GUYS are Gone ... that's how I would sell it and see if he bites ... but no way do I take his initial offer
