Any opinions on this guy? Plays like Lamont did, similar size and speed...etc. He could give us an advantage in short yardage situations, and would be a perfect compliment to Leon (speed) and TJ (workhorse) to help change the pace up.

If he were there in the second it would be a great pick.

Lamont Jordan is a very good comparsion, very similar in size, although IMO, Greene appears to be a little faster than Jordan.

I wouldn't complain in the least if the Jet's selected Greene in Rd 2. I'd still love a feature back, but the Jets needs on defense...CB, S, MLB.....make it out of the question. Beanie, Moreno or Shady are a luxury we can't afford in Rd 1. Lets' see who we acquire in Free Agency and I may change my mind.

I wouldn't call Beanie a luxury unless he's going to be personally outfitting the trainer's room with some leather chairs and a projector w/ 5.1 surround. I know we have a lot of needs this year but you can't pick based solely on need. If a special player like Shady, Maclin or Moreno are there you have to at least think about it. That being said if we go defense in the first than taking someone like Greene in the second should be a no-brainer.

I'm not a Beanie supporter, he's injuryed way too often. I'll tell you, when Beanie is on his game, he's an awesome player, going to be a huge Risk/Reward player. I wouldn't take a chance on him in Rd 1. Shady is my favorite RB of the 3, but I still believe we will have other options at 17 than RB.

Here's my comments I posted today, in another thread in this section:

not thrilled using our 17th pick on a RB. I still believe if we stay at 17, Rex Ryan is looking at defense or Sanchez if he's available, which is unlikely.

I'd have no problem trading down into late Rd 1 and pick up another 2nd rd pick....and this become our scenario.........

    Late Rd 1........Sean Smith
    Rd 2................Shonn Greene
    Late Rd 2.........Darry Beckwith

Smith you get great player that can project at CB/S. Greene gets us a comlpiment player with TJ & Leon. Beckwith is a very good MLB, smaller in size, but so is Ray Lewis, they have almost identical frames. Both are listed at 6'1"....but i believe both are closer to 6'0".

We would solve 3 needs with our 3 picks with very good prospects. CB/RB/MLB.

Just something to think about, trading down seems like a viable option, the difference in players in this draft between 15-32 is razor thin in quality.

I like LeSean McCoy the most too, but it just wouldn't be smart for us to go RB in the first.

If the coaching staff wants to go running back in the first - I hope they trade back at least 8 to 10 spots and pick up another second or a 2010 first.

Fair enough but right now we still haven't gone through FA so we don't really know what our holes are. Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard are out there and could find themselves on this roster, easily. After that there is CB and DE on the wish list for the defense but I don't see any prospects out there at DE who I think could help the team more than a HB could help the offense. There could be solid help there but not someone with the same upside and explosiveness.

As for CB I think the talent pool is deep enough in the FA period and the draft to the point where we can be comfortable. We can't put every piece into this defense in one off-season and if we can bring in someone to help out this offense - which also needs a few pieces - we can't just say no. We need some impact players on offense more than depth.

That would be an ideal situation.

Sean Smith is my favorite defensive prospect in 2009.

    I don't like Darry Beckwith as a 3-4 ILB.

DB had a hard time shedding blocks at the college level - it will only get worse for him in the pros.

He is a solid tackler and a field general, but he weighs in the low 230's and he's constantly banged up.

I can't really argue with the Shonn Greene selection - he'd give us another power back...which I think is a bigger need than most think.

You and I have been very consistent with our feelings about Smith.

Beckwith has had some injuries, but I believe he can thrive in a 3-4, he's closer to 235 and can gain some weight and is much stronger than Vilma. I thought Jerod Mayo wouldn't do well and be engulfed by O-line in New England's 3-4, but has done well.

This is the way I'm looking at it for Jerod Mayo:

New England has a monster defensive line with Ty Warren, Vince Wilfork, and Richard Seymour. Jarvis Green, Mike Wright, and Le Kevin Smith were also very valuable rotation players.

The Jets line has a mammoth of a man in Kris Jenkins at NT, an over-achiever in Shaun Ellis, and a decent run-stopper in Kenyon Coleman - that's it. We have no depth, so as soon as our mediocre-at-best, undersized rotational linemen enter the game, our linebackers are overwhelmed. (Sione Pouha is half-way decent, but he's only one part of that rotation)

I'm not saying Beckwith is a bad player at all - he's a hell of a 'backer. I just think he fits better as a 4-3 outside guy.
