the jets ran the toss sweep with shonne green with success yesterday. i only remember sseeing them do it 1 time, but i was so happy to see it because i think it can be a big weapon for this offens with greene in the backfild.a back thats big and strong enough to pound it up the middle, but also with enough burst to attack the edge of a defenses.shoud be fun to watch for many years to come .

the toss sweep is something the jets haven't run well since c-mart was here. it would be nice to see that as a weapon again. when you have a team selling out on the inside run giving greene a chance on the outside with his speed and strength is a great call.

Those are straight sweeps which I beg for ...

But there are 2 other Plays that the JETS rus successfully that don't get called often

1-Pitch/Toss Counter. It's usually run w/ LEON where both Backs go one way but then one back counters and gets the Pitch to the outside. It catches the whole D moving one way.

2- Inside FB Handoff/ Counter. We last ran this last year in Tenn and for big gains.

I think part of the thinking is simply because our G's can't move very well which is most often what is used on the pulls.
That is unless you have a guy like Mawae who was probably the greatest pulling center in history.

and FTR, Faneca is having a sub par year. after re-watching games he has been getting beat badly on quite a few plays.

As soon as I saw the thread title I thought of Martin. Would be nice to have that back.

yeah martin ran the toss sweep as well as any back has ever done it. as has been said it didn't hurt to have mawae who was a great pulling lineman. i remember the game that martin set his now broken franchise record they ran the toss sweep to perfection all day long.

On that play both Middle linebackers blitzed. It was a good call at a good time because of the blitz. I think it is a play we have to pick our spots with because good DE can string it out and it can be shut down for a loss quite often. The announcers even highlighted the blitz.

What would you guys think of our version of the WC utilizing: Smith, Jones and Greene?

Well, we don't really run a single wing like the Phins do, and I'm not sure why. Whenever we had Leon or Smith taking the direct snap, it was always some kind of flimsy formation with twin WRs on one side, weakening the blocking schemes.

The way the Dolphins use the wildcat works because they have more run blockers on the field than the opposing defense has attackers on the line.

The way the Jets use their 'version' of it is simply a gimmick. They just replace the QB with a RB or WR and make the wideouts lined up on the field completely ineffective as decoys and in effect, useless. I know Leon and Smith did gain some yards in that 'Seminole' set, but it would be much more effective if they got rid of the wideouts.

I've actually been waiting for a while to see the Jets incorporate a sweep into the offense again, it was one of their staple plays with Curtis Martin in the backfield. The offensive line has some very good athletes, get them moving a little bit and see what they can do. It worked very nicely against Oakland.
