Now that we're almost halfway through his first four game suspension, I was wondering if anyone has heard any definitive news about what additional discipline Sheldon will be facing for his Bentley caper? Is there any deadline as to when the Jets must be informed? It seems as if the team would need to know fairly soon, given the roster implications etc.
If anything happens, I'm sure it won't be until next year. I think you can rest easy that he will be back in game 5.
I wonder what will happen, too. There should be additional discipline. What he did was flat out crazy. I would say an additional 4-8 games. Maybe he returns in December, I don't know. All the things reported, he wasn't charged for though, right? So it all (suspension-wise) should not be held against him.
Slightly off topic, but am I right in thinking that one more failed test means a year-long suspension under the terms of the NFL substance abuse program?
That's the thing. He was so close to spending the next 10-20 years in jail, he could have died along with the other guys in the car. There was weed involved, speeding, cops going after him, he had a gun in his car. And then he basically just gets a ticket. He should be suspended for his stupidity but based on the facts you can't/shouldn't suspend him. If the cops had nothing to put him in jail except for that speeding ticket then the NFL needs to move on. He's already missing 4 games anyway.
After this episode with the Patriots, I would imagine Goodell is a bit gunshy. All anyone has to do these days is mention "appeal" and he shrivels up like a dick in a snowstorm. If anyone has ever tried to take a leak outside in a snowstorm, you know what I'm talking about..
Yes, but they can't test him again until next year. His suspension SHOULD be much longer than 4 games.
I agree that there should be additional discipline. But bear in mind that all of the other charges minus going over (very over) the speed limit were all dropped against him. I'd say that due to the fact that this hasn't happened yet, I could see him getting 1-2 games next year.
I find it absolutely astonishing that Brady was initially only suspended for 4 games. He entered into an elaborate conspiracy to cheat in a Conference Championship Game and he deleted evidence and clearly hindered the investigation. Frankly, it would have been appropriate for them to kick him out of the league or at least a one year suspension. That they can say that smoking a joint is equivalent (4 game suspension) to Brady's actions in championship game no less is absolutely stunning to me.
