I've heard a lot of theories about this issue, but I have to give credit to Sheff, he sure has an original take on it.
Yeah, it's not that less black people want to play baseball. They're all just getting blacklisted (no pun intended). Sheff's always good for a dumb conspiracy.
Yeah, that's why 69% of NFL players are blacks, because that's a sport where coaches and teams don't try to control their players. Thanks for more evidence that the (former?) ability to hit a baseball has absolutely nothing to do with being able to think coherently, Sheff.
I would be more apt to believe that if 8.5 percent of the NBA was black, and 91.5 was white and hispanic.
so what he is saying is that there are less black players because black people can't follow rules or listen to authority?
I don't have a sufficiently witty comment to outdo all the ones already posted. So I'll just say WoW Sheff.
Sheffield is part of the proud baseball tradition of being both an all time great player and an idiot.
Hmm it's not because the % of black players in the NBA and NFL have gone up while the % in baseball and boxing have gone down? I guess white people don't want to play in the NBA because they don't like to play unorganized offense and like to play defense. It's these types of remarks that lead to stereotypes and myths about race. I'd imagine guys like Jeter, Rollins, Prince Fielder and Ryan Howard would disagree with him. My thinking is the only player that would agree with him is Barry Bonds but he's an idiot too.
Like Ron Darling said on SNY this afternoon - "I knew Gary Sheffield when he was 16, and he still sounds the same".
I think it's because young kids see Sheffield and Bonds and think "If that's what a black major league player is like, I want no part of it!"
Yeah – it’s not possible that the Latin players are just better than the black players. I knew something had to be up.
Football and basketball ruined heavyweight boxing also. Can you imagine what the top ten in heavyweight boxing would look like if football or basketball was never invented? How would you like to see a trained John Abraham fighting the defending champion Bryan Cox? Would you buy the Pay TV?
The latin player emergence has something to do with it, but not nearly the reason he gave well kind of, if he means that latin players are easier to control as of not having to go through a draft than Sheff is right, but I highly think he is thinking of the wrong way of thinking which is wrong.
