Serious Question: Why DOES this team seem so hopeless?

The Jets made some seemingly good moves this year: They picked up one of the hottest coaching prospects for the HC and were universally praised for it. They picked up a the consensus #2 QB in the draft, they've been rebuilding the offensive line, they picked up new offensive talent, they restructured the front office, and there seemed to be a serious shift in the culture of the team. Nobody was expecting a Super Bowl this year. But for some reason, it seems like it's been a total failure. They honestly did just about what any team in their position would have done; they seemed to be acting with common sense. And yet everything is failing. It would be one thing if the team was showing signs of life but just wasn't there yet, but there's barely a single good thing to say about this team yet again! I know it's a rebuilding year, but I wasn't expecting it to be this bad!

What is with this team? Seriously, I wonder what some thoughts are. Not cynical "God hates us," or "we're cursed." Why does it seem like when the Jets and any other team do the same thing, only the Jets fail?

I mean it’s only been 3 games. Let’s at least wait until the end of the season.

    Great post.

My Top 3 reasons in no particular order.

    1) Rookie HC, rookie QB and rookie OC not putting rookie QB in the best spot to win. Growing pains.
    2) Joe D's philosophy was correct but all his OL picks has been underwhelming, be it thru draft or FA.
    3) We have a very young team. Too many first or second year players on the team.

Pass blocking is horrendous, run game is bad, QB isn’t ready, Offensive coordinator is lost, don’t play their best WR’s

Defense is OK for what they have, offense is a complete train wreck

Was there a shortage of serious questions... so we had to make some up?

This offense is still a train wreck

    Becton-stay hurt
AVT- not overly impressed to be honest.

right side of the OL is awful. Will all be out of the league soon.

Moore is a gimmick WR. No RB and a rookie QB. It’s a tough combo.

Next draft we need OL, OL, OL and WR or TE with first four picks. Period. You need to give Zach a chance. One piece will not do sh** for this team

    Besides incompetent and embarrassing owners:

    1. Joe D, surprisingly has selected a lot of boom or bust players and a lot have underwhelmed (Becton, Mims, Ashtyn Davis, Zach Wilson) these were high picks and are all categorized as high risk high reward

    2. We have 1st time HC, OC, QB Coach and DC

    3. We don't have a lot of vets almost anywhere on the roster right now and to this point don't have system continuity anywhere, besides special teams with Boyer

We’re asking for ten years of bad drafting and ignoring the o line to be made up in 2 . There’s a shortage of food i lineman that can just step
In to any situation and make it look good and there’s not enough practice time ( actual hitting ) to make it work with lesser talent quick enough to have positive results. Add in injuries and you get what we have. The last time we had a good o line it had 4 rd1 picks onto and 3 players that had been together for a bunch of years. Time and talent on the o line will give the team something to build on. The left side needs time( when becton returns) and the right side needs both.

He made one change along the offensive line in the offseason with some of the most cap space in the league. The last time our offensive line struggled like this, we had 4/5 new starters (considering Kendall moved back to guard) the next year.

Offensive lines are fixed in a year. Not three.

I'm convinced that everyone comes here and nearly instantly becomes trash. Corey Davis was an underneath pass catcher that made hard catches in traffic and absorbed contact while making the catch. He can't catch balls here with three yard halos around him.

McGovern was a decent guard/center in Denver (3x 1,000 yard rushers/less than 35 sacks in his last two years as a full starter), gets here and can't block a thing and the line calls are consistently fucked up.

Joyner gets here and his season is over in a half. Same with that linebacker with the weird name we got from Baltimore last year. I don't think he played a snap for us.

I think the thing that can gives us hope is Eli Manning. He was beyond awful his first year, maybe even worse than Zach. However, the Giants maintained faith in his ability and addressed the holes and weaknesses in the off-season and he responded with a 12-4 season. So, a rapid turn around is possible. Of course this presupposes the Jets FO can identify the issues and make repairs.

Frankly, there's no reason for hope. This franchise is doomed so long as the Johnsons are running things. We'll continue to go through one lousy QB after another, one once-promising young coach after another, and so on indefinitely until the Johnsons either sell the team or pass it down to a more competent heir.
