After cutting Holmes and Sanchez the Jets will likely have $41 M in cap space

    Free agent signings/resignings

Matt Schaub QB- 3 year 27M
This contract puts Schaub on par with Smith and Palmer a fair sum for a player who tanked this season as bad as he has. Overlooking that Schaub has had a >90 QBR in all but one season in Hou and has always been >61% completion percentage. He will let Geno sit and develop

Golden Tate WR- 5 year 40M
Seems like a big contract for Tate but when looking at WR contracts in the NFL this contract would rank 20th. Also it’s going to take a bigger contract to convince a budding star to play in a Jets offense. That aside playing at home (NJ) and the chance to be a #1 receiver plus the 8M per year should convince him to come to the NYJ

Jason Worilds OLB- 3 year 13.5M
Up and coming OLB to complete a stellar front 7. His contract is comparable to Erik Walden who signed with Indy last year

    Geoff Schwartz OG- 2 year 3 M
This guy was a starter at RT for Car 4 years ago and played very well. Following that season he went on IR. He signed with Min as a back up and excelled when given a chance. This year he has played excellent for KC scoring a 13.7 overall according to PFF. Will push Winters and Cambell

Willie Colon OG- 2 year 2 year 4M
Has been serviceable and an excellent pass blocker. Considering his track record as a great run blocker I expect this to improve next season

Austin Howard OT- 4 year 16M
Has been the Jets best offensive line men this season and should be retained.

    Nick Folk K- 2 year 4 M

    Draft

1st- Jace Amaro TE- Texas Tech
The Jets need to improve offensive weapons badly and I feel the top 3 TEs will be gone by the Jets second so they pull the trigger on a TE here and draft a WR in the 2nd. Amaro lines up all over the field and reminds me a lot of Jimmy Graham

    2nd- Jordan Matthews WR- Vanderbilt
If this dude had better athlicism he’d be the top WR drafted. He reminds me a lot of Anquan Boldin in that he’s a big (6’3) possession receiver with excellent hands and is very good after the catch

3rd from Bucs- Charles Sims RB- West Virginia
a 6’0 213 lb RB who can catch the ball like Jamal Charles (70 receptions in Freshman year, >200 total in career). Also he has averaged > 5.5 years per carry his whole career. I’m huge on this kid

    3rd- Aaron Murray QB- Georgia
I’m committed to finding the Jets next QB. Between Murray, Geno, and Schaub one will step up. Murray was a star in the SEC and can be the steal of the draft

4th- Antone Exum CB/S- Virginia Tech
A S converted to CB but he’s way to big to play CB in the NFL at (6’1 224 lbs). His experience at CB makes him capable to play man to man, all this plus he’s a hard hitter

Disclaimer: I recognize that everyone want’s a new safety but I feel that the problems in the secondary are mostly related to Cro’s injuries and Milliner’s inexperience, I expect improvements next year from them as well as assistance from an improved pass rush of Coples and Worilds

4th compensation- Seantrel Henderson OT- Miami
This dudes a moron and injury prone but he’s get elite size and athleticism. He’s worth the pick late in the 4th and if nothing else can come in on jumbo packages

5th- Dri Archer WR/RB/KR- Kent State
Had a down season as a senior but he’s an electric playmakers who can be used an a offensive weapon

    2014 Roster

    QB- Schaub, Smith, Murray
    RB- Ivory, Sims, Powell
    FB- Bohanon
WR- Tate, Matthews, Hill, Kerley, Archer
    TE- Amaro, Cumberland
    OT- Furgerson, Howard, Henderson
    OG- Schwartz, Colon, Winters, Cambell
    C- Mangold, Schlauderaff
    DE- Wilkerson, Richardson, Douzable
    DT- Harrison, Ellis
    OLB- Coples, Worilds, McIntyre
    ILB- Harris, Davis, Belore
CB- Cromartie, Milliner, Wilson, Walls, Lankster
    SS- Allen, Exum
    FS- Landry, Bush

Im sorry, but I puked a little when I saw Matt Schaub signed for 27 mil over 3 years.

Id certainly rather Sanchez than the terrible Matt Schaub. The guy could hardly be average with a top 5 OL, Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, Ower Daniels and then DeAndre Hopkins this year. No fucking thank you. You think he's worth that money with the garbage we have on offense?

I appreciate the effort but you can forget signing Matt Schaub for $27 million......no way. If the Jets go the QB route I would rather them trade for Kirk Cousins even if it costs a high draft pick. Golden Tate would be a decent signing but a little expensive. I doubt they resign Colon for another two years although terms look cheap. Don't forget about MO - that will probably be priority among our own players....

Draft picks are decent - I really like Sims from WV. One of those top 4 picks will be defense though....probably a safety.

Arian Foster and Daniels played 6 and 5 games this season respectively. Hopkins is a rookie. And his O-line is far from a top 5.

Other then this year he has produced and been effective. In a year where the Jets have a surplus of cap space it makes sense to go after a vet QB. This allows the Jets to draft weapons early (as I have) and not be forced into drafting a QB or continuing to beat a dead horse with Geno (he's not a starter accept it).

Schaub gives the Jets a legit QB for the first time in Rex's career, although he may be only average that is leaps and bounds better then Mark and Geno. If you guarantee little of this contract it allows you to cut him if he continues to regress, but if he reverts back to his old self the Jets become play off contenders in just one season with the Defense and improved offense

I like your draft but the schaub and tate contracts are cap killers. Do not over pay for underperforming players like that.

Love Archer in the fifth. Him or Diggs (Maryland) in a couple years is who I'd love to see as a jet slot receiver/returner

I don't mind getting Golden Tate and appreciate the focus on offense and it depends who is available but I would prefer to go WR first round and TE second if necessary.

Don't like picking a RB and not picking a safety.

so we just blow our cap not worry about resigning mo and kerley

i'd pass on schaub and worilds. coples and barnes are fine as olb and pace can come back for vet min.

tates ok, hope we can get him a little cheaper but i won't be mad overpaying for 1 player who could be an instant threat

    Yes!!!

I don't understand the need to resign a player who's still under contract. After the 2014 season all the dead money from Holmes and Sanchez will come off the books with the addition of Harris and Cro's ridiculous contracts will reach the end at the conclusion of the 2014 season. That gives the Jets an additional 30M at the start of next offseason. When Mo and Kerley's contracts are up they will be compensated accordingly but until then they can honor their contracts. Not every pro bowler is Revis and will demand money regardless of their current contract.

Additionally the way i calculated this mock offseason by the end the free agent signings the Jets will have roughly 10-11M left to sign other free agents and rookies, thus it didn't blow the cap

Im not sure you've seen Schaub... If is FAR from legit. And I wasnt talking about just this year. He's been mediocre his whole career with far better talent than we have. I mean the guy got benched for an UDFA. If that isnt telling, idk what is. Id flip a shit if the Jets went from cap hell, to not, and then signed Schaub for 9 mil a year. Id much rather sign Jimmy Graham for that price and let Geno have some weapons (or a QB that we draft).

As far as the draft, I love Amaro. Jordan Matthews is a very solid receiver as well. Certainly not a bad 1-2.

GTFO with Schaub for 9 mil a year. He isn't even worth 5 mil a year. Do love the Golden Tate signing.

Would also be ecstatic with Jace and Matthews.

I love Tate as a player (my favorite Notre Dame player I've ever watched), but I don't think he fits what we need on this offense. He's a big time playmaker, especially in space, but not the kind of guy a young quarterback can rely on to bail him out consistently. Much in the same vein as a Santonio Holmes IMO.

Well we need playmakers. Bottom line.

We shouldnt expect him to be a real #1 WR though. If we could couple him with another WR in the 1st or 2nd, I think that could be great for this offense. Evans/Watkins + Tate would be awesome.

What we need most of all is a guy that's going to be consistently productive and help develop a young QB. Tate comes up big a lot, but isn't a guy you can rely on to move down the field reliably.

If we were looking for that kind of player we could probably sign Holmes for cheap.

Golden Tate would be a great consolation prize after Maclin, but not for that much money. Schaub would be a good guy to come in and push Geno, but that contract might be too much, too. I would be cheering for Geno all the way, but I'm okay with that.

agree with the worilds love - perfect replacement for pace.

if the jets could get him it puts even more of a focus on offense in the draft as u did.

I don't think Matthews makes it to the 2nd.

He is, IMO, the third best WR in this year's draft behind Evans and Watkins.

A typical NFL draft has 3 Wrs going in the first, and another one or two at the top of the second. You can certainly pencil in Evans and Watkins as top 15 picks. After that the field is very muddled.

    Lee
    Adams
    Matthews
    Robinson
    Richardson
    Cook

It depends on which GM likes who and what value you designate for each player. If I'm the GM, I'm taking Matthews out of all those guys.

On a side note, I like Richardson out of Colorado second out of that group. He might be there in the 2nd round.
