ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Navy is investigating allegations of sexual assault against a second member of the Naval Academy football team, The (Baltimore) Sun reported Friday.

Citing a source familiar with the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity, The Sun said a midshipman told investigators that she was sexually assaulted inside a building in the Georgetown section of Washington.

"We can confirm that there's an investigation into allegations of criminal misconduct involving midshipmen," Ed Buice, a spokesman for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, told The Sun. "We can't comment on details of the case beyond what we've already said because it's obviously an ongoing investigation."

Buice did not immediately return phone calls Friday morning.

News of the second alleged assault first surfaced Wednesday, the same day the academy announced that rape charges had been filed against Lamar Owens, the quarterback who guided Navy to victories over Army and Air Force and a bowl victory to cap the academy's 8-4 season.

No charges have been filed in the second investigation, the newspaper reported.

Naval Academy spokesman Michael Brady said the academy could not comment on the story in The Sun and could not say if a second investigation is under way.

A source familiar with the investigation told The Associated Press on Wednesday that a second complaint had been lodged, but would not provide any details about who was involved or where the alleged incident occurred.
