Now, onto the New York Jets New York Jets (Rd.2 #39 via trade with Oakland Raiders) - Tyson Alualu, DE, Cal The Jets move back from Rd.1 since there was no prospect who immediately jumped out at them. Drafting Alualu here served a few purposes. It immediately gives the Jets some youth on the D-Line, although will still need to be addressed next year as well, it give the Jets an upgrade at the DE position, and it prevents the Patriots from picking up Alualu who inevitably is on their radar to replace Richard Seymour. The Jets move up before any of the Pats three 2nd round picks. New York Jets (Rd.2 #61) - Koa Misi, OLB, Utah You didn't really think Vernon Gholston was going to be the heir apparent to the mediocre "Cactus," did you? Some may think Misi has the label "workout warrior" stamped all over him, but Misi is a hard nosed, punch you in the mouth football player who is incredibly passionate about the game. Something you can't say about Gladys. He's very versatile and can play well in open space, again something our previous 1st Rd. OLB can't do. New York Jets (Rd.3, #69 via trade with Oakland Raiders) - Andre Roberts, WR, Citadel Roberts could be gone by this pick with the way his stock is soaring, but he can also last this long with the amount of WR's this draft has with a 2nd-3rd round grade. Roberts fits in perfectly with what the Jets are looking for. He's a quick receiver with reliable hands who isn't afraid to go over the middle. Sounds to me like he's a slot receiver (for now...) and he can also fill the role of return man with the departure of Leon Washington. New York Jets (*Rd.3 #82 via trade with Pittsburgh Steelers*) - Montario Hardesty, RB, Tennessee Take a nice hard look at Leon's replacement. Soft hands, patient runner, elusive, and with decent strength. Hardesty fits what the Jets offense is looking for more than Washington...he runs with authority. He doesn't bring the speed or quite the same bit of agility that Leon has, but he brings size to the table, and he no slouch in the agility department. New York Jets (Rd.4, #124) - Myron Rolle, S, Florida State So here is where the Jets have to roll the dice. On one hand, Rolle abandoned his team to interview for a scholarship...On the other hand, he is a very solid and obviously intelligent player who doesn't have much of a glaring weakness in his game other than timed speed. I would still put money on Rolle over Sherry Rhodes in a footrace. Rolle could end up being a outstanding football player, if he is truly passionate about the game, or he could be just another average player. I think its worth the gamble here. New York Jets (Rd.5, #163) - Alterraun Verner, CB, UCLA Verner was an All-American 3rd team member, who collected 5 INTs and is also solid in run support. Any step towards getting Drew Coleman off of the team is a positive step, and this is definitely one. New York Jets (Rd.6, #198) - Ciron Black, OT, LSU Black had a very mediocre senior season, after being a 3rd team All American in 2008. He seems to have the talent to be a good OT, but his concentration seems to be the issue. I wanted to address this position earlier, but the Jets options at OL ran out when all the marquee players were taken before their 1st pick, and I felt that a startign DE was more of a need. The Jets will address this position early in the draft next year. New York Jets (Rd.7, #236) - Jeremy Boone, P, Penn State Boone averaged 43 yards per punt the last 3 season, so its safe to say he is consistent...a word usually not used to describe the Jets punting game. A little bit of work with Westhoff and he could increase those numbers. Still, a very solid punter who could make it over the erratic leg of Steve Weatherford.
Outside of the fact that Ciron Black did not go to Texas Tech and Andre Roberts may go in the second round, I cant complain about that draft, even though I am skeptical the idea of trading down
The Raiders don't have a 2011 1st round pick, Richard Seymour. I'd be really disappointed if the Jets ended up with Alualu and Koa Misi as their first two picks. Both are solid guys, but they're the types that could be found a lot later. Alualu, I think, is really more of a 3tech than he is a 34 End, even though he played the position at Cal. I just don't really see him as that much of a hold his ground type End, and the college 34 is really more of a gimmick to confuse teams because it's never seen than it is a place to obtain 34 players (if that didn't make sense, I can explain it a little further). Misi is a similar guy, overachiever with good workouts that can be a nice role guy, but I've never seen even a potential to be a great edge rusher from him. At least with some other guys who weren't that productive there's an explosion to their game, Misi doesn't really have it.
yep, I switched out from Brandon Carter last second and forgot switch school. That's the least of my worries.
Ok it's updated. So instead I'm going to accelerate it to their 2nd and 3rd this year, and a 4th next year. The first trade was boarderline fleecing the Raiders (what else is new) but the draft actually wasn't affected. I moved Roberts up to the early 3rd round with the Raiders pick, which now will probably put to rest most question to if he would make it around to that pick. He may or may not have been there in the 4th...Im almost certain he will be there in the early 3rd...
Aside from the Raiders not having a first round pick in 2011, the other trades make sense. If Buffalo falls in love with Clausen I could see them moving up to him. And I agree that Marshall getting dealt is still very possible. The NFL mock is pretty solid IMO and pretty ordinary. I wouldn't complain about Alualu, but I'm sort of skeptical about Misi. I'm in the minority that would absolutely not trade Leon Washington.. Hardesty looks like a great prospect so I wouldn't be upset with him. Andre ROberts is one of my favorite prospects and I doubt he lasts that long. IMO we'd be lucky to get him in the 2nd round, but who knows how his size and level competition will factor in to his draft status. I think Ciron Black gets chosen higher, but we get a bunch of solid prospects so I wouldn't complain
In an ordinary draft, yes. This is not your ordinary draft though. There is so much depth across the board, I wouldn't be surprised to see him last to the end of the 3rd or early 4th.
would of taken a Nice receiver in the late 2nd like LaFell, Williams, or Briscoe nd picked up an OLB in the 3rd or 4th but still a very solid draft.
Yea i would've taken Williams in the 2nd and then taken Norwood in the 3rd instead but all in all I really like this draft and would be very happy if this is how it played out.
Yea, Roberts is now an early 3rd rounder, in light of my slip-up regarding the Raider trade. IMO, this seems much more likely a draft slot for him. I was a little skeptical of placing him in the 4th round. I kept battling back and forth because there is a chance he is there, yet I realize its not that likley.
That was actually my 2nd scenario. I originally had: #61: Damian Williams, WR, USC #82: Eric Norwood, OLB, SC #106: Ben Tate, RB, Auburn But then I realized that it is highly unlikely that the Jets would trade Leon in the 3rd and not make pick his replacement until the 4th. While I would have preferred this scenario, I don't like it happens because Leon's trade really puts the Jets in a situation to draft a RB at that spot.
great minds think alike... But your right it is unlikely they would trade Leon and then not draft his replacement with their next pick.
There's also a possibility you could of done 39th- A. Benn, WR, Illinois 61st- A. Carrington, DE, Arz. State 82nd- M. Hardesty, RB, Tenn 124th- G. Selvie, OLB, USF 163rd- M. Lewis, FS, Vandi then Ciron Black and Boone or if we need a young CB get W. Thurmond, CB, Oregon and then Kevin Haslam, OT, Rutgers
It's a solid draft. If we're truly looking to win now, it helps because the first two can contribute right away, and so can Roberts. There isn't a ton of upside here though.
