Just wanted to offer my opinion up and see what you guys think. I thought Schottenheimer really got imaginative yesterday. He has been doing it all season, but this week he really got creative and took some chances. Some of the formations he came up with were very innovative, and in some ways his youthful, "new-way" of approaching the game is fun to watch and gives the Jets a certain edge over the opposing defense. I cannot help but wonder that when Mangini brought him in with a certain thought. After being under BB in NE for several years, he saw how different defensive fronts could confuse the offense and keep them on their heals, now lots of NFL teams incorporate several fronts and mix up position players for new looks. We are now starting to see more, offense, especially with these Jets start to do things to confuse the defense more. Lots of movement, use of players such as Brad Smith and L. Washington to run the college like option plays are intelligent, safe and effective. The defense now has to adjust to the offense instead of the offense trying to read the defense. With a QB like Chad, he then has the ability to audible after the D already makes an adjustment. This was apparent on the 58yd TD pass to Coles. He audibled out to a slant and go after the defense had pinched in the corners. I think it was Z. Thomas who made the adjustment, and his read was right, our formation dictated a quick slant, which is what we were running out of this simple formation, but we suprised him. What I am getting at here, is we were keeping them guessing. Our offense was NOT amazing yesterday, but this is only week 6 of the B. Schott era, and I have an idea it will only get better. He uses all his weapons very well. I did not like his JMac fade call on 3rd and 2 in the third qt. (i think it was), but it was still aggressive and very unexpected. All in all, very fun to watch, and very encouraging. :finssuck:
I like its aggressiveness and its creativity, but I think they get a bit too into all the shifting, especially since once all the shifting is done, they often just run it up the gut.
i like his calling and schemes but yesterday the screens were utterly ridiculous and ineffective and we still used em.
I like the agressiveness alot... but alot of times I was predecting the plays in yesterdays game in the stands and was right on with alot of em...
Yea, that one screen pass to Dwight had no shot, Taylor read it easily and shut it down, but I see what he is trying to do, which is get him the ball with some room to run.
The one that caught my eye was the one where Smith went into motion...and I thought to my self "Son of a Bitch"
I thought the shifting/motions were great, also loved the fake double reverse run.as well as the motion and direct snap to B.Smith on the QB sneak. Shows innovative thinking.
Yeah, if we keep throwing those quick outs, Chad is going to get an int at the wrong time and somebody is going to take it the distance. It almost happened yesterday.
Same here......i was really surprised that we didnt have any false starts, miami wasnt falling for it at all.....i thought it was alil 2 much myself plus we really didnt get anything out of it :finssuck:
